Authorized by Hanban, HSK Standard Course is developed under the joint efforts of Beijing Language and Culture University Press and Chinese Testing International (CTI). With HSK test papers as its primary source, HSK Standard Course is characterized by a humorous style, familiar topics and a scientific course design. Matching the HSK test in all aspects, from the content, form to the levels, it is a series of new-type course books embodying the idea of ""combining testing and teaching, and promoting learning and teaching by testing"". It is suitable for the Confucius Institutes in different countries as well as other Chinese teaching institutions and self-taught learners. Review: A well thought out approach to preparing for HSK3. - This book for HSK3 looks like it is well thought out and appears to be done with the approval of the Confucius Institute and Hanban, the administrators of HSK. It has 20 chapters with 30 some grammar points. The first part of the chapter has a word game: the object is to match a picture to Chinese words and pinyin. The second part has several short texts and vocabulary. The vocabulary includes pinyin. The text also has a pinyin version. There is no English translation, but IMO that's a good thing if your goal is to pass HSK3. The third section has grammar points and provides good examples and some sentences for the student to test knowledge of the grammar points. The fourth section of the chapter provides a variety of exercises. The fifth section is to enrich the student's understanding of Chinese characters. Finally, the last section of the chapter has application work that can be done in a group or a pair. I'd recommend finding a native speaker to help you with any of these sections, esp. the application. There was one reviewer who said the books didn't have any pinyin. Well, mine has PLENTY of pinyin. But at HSK 3, a serious student shouldn't be too dependent upon pinyin. My only criticism is a minor one: the preface and forward section is entirely in Chinese and has no English translation. At HSK 3 level, this sort of text is beyond the typical student's ability, at least it is for me at this time. I think a preface and forward section is important to understand the author's philosophy and perspective, so I was a little disappointed with the lack of an English translation. This book can be paired with a video series: "Chinese Zero to Hero" chinesezerotohero.com Review: Good - Good quality. The sample conversations are very realistic. The grammar points could be explained a little more thoroughly, so I study this textbook along with the Chinese Zero to Hero video courses online. That makes using this textbook a lot more useful. I’ve been using this series for HSK 3 and now HSK 4, and I plan to continue using it.

Essential for the HSK 3 exam
Spent an afternoon reading through the first chapter. I like how they have characters in different fonts to get you used to seeing them ‘in the wild’. You can use wechat to listen to the audio files, just scan the qr code on the back of the book. Lots of grammar examples and problems to solve.

No pinyin support whatsoever.
Beware! There is absolutely no pinyin to support the reading of Chinese characters.

Great book for HSK3 if you persist! Can only recommend.
This is a great book for anybody who wants to learn HSK3, on their own or with a teacher. The first lesson did give me a bad impression, but if you persist and find a way of work, it pays off. What I usually do is, learn the new vocabulary of the chapter (the beginning sections) and then read the texts. After reading the texts, I will write down the texts with the help of the audio, to practice the characters and find out if there are any characters I don't know/forgot. Then I continue to grammar and exercises. This book allows you to learn HSK3 very fast if you put the time and effort into it. If you spend 3-4 hours a day you can learn HSK3 pretty quickly. I recommend using the workbook as well, in my case I will test my knowledge using the workbook after finishing the textbook, but it could also be used in between lessons. Note, very limited pinyin in this book (only the stories, written separately at the end of each chapter) -- and this is a very good thing! It forces you to use Pleco or other dictionaries in order to find hanzi stroke order/pinyin/intonation. The chance of you remembering it after looking it up is so much greater than just have been given it. I'm very much a fan of this book series and will continue using these to achieve my Chinese language goals :-). If you find this review useful, please don't forget to mark as helpful, thank you :-).

In the Hsk3 exam the students are no more supported by pinyin, so the book accordingly designed to it so do not be deluded by the inefficient comments. Chinese zero the hero course is well accompanied with HSK curriculum success is granted.

Une méthode bien pensée qui rend l'apprentissage attrayant
Excellent ouvrage pour préparer le HSK3. Les concepts grammaticaux sont présentés très progressivement ; les dialogues sont amusants ; les exercices sont bien pensés ; la prononciation des locuteurs dans les enregistrements est parfaite. Bref, l'ouvrage idéal pour se préparer à l'examen.
