## Description

The GEL-KAYANO 28 MK shoe creates a stable step that moves you towards a balanced mindset. The shoe's MONO-SOCK construction comfortably hugs your foot for improved support. To improve stability and responsiveness, we added FF BLAST cushioning to the midsole. It provides a smooth and supportive feel with every step. The trainer's new gel technology ensures a smooth stride, so you can experience a softer landing without losing speed.

Review: an excellent workhorse - I've worn the higher end Asics like Kinsei, Kayano and Nimbus so I was a bit hesitant to go for the 'mass' model. Nonetheless, the US$50 price tag was too hard to resist, inclusive of free shipping to Singapore! To be honest, I buy running shoes for two reasons. I'm a regular runner, 3-4 times a week, but not long distance. 6-10 km each time, easy pace. I'm 43 years old, so no longer trying to improve a lot. Just trying to keep healthy and fit enough to enjoy the years ahead with my relatively young children. So the other regular use of my shoes are in the weekends, with jeans or bermudas, or on casual friday at work. So, they have to look good too and be as comfortable for walking as they are for running. Perhaps my expectations were already realistic but I was v pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the fit was immediately. Hey this is as cushy as the more expensive models! Have I been paying too much for 'segmentation' all this while?? It has that nice 'foot glove' feel - snug but not too tight. The neon green turned out to be very nice too. Not garish or 'obiang' but bright and catchy. When I took it for the first run, initially I felt the 'side cushioning' wasn't as stable as the Kayano (19, also bought from desertcart at a great value of US$87!), but that was just for the first minute or two, as I got used to this shoe. After that, the run was pretty much what I'd expect from an Asics - you don't notice the shoe after a while, which is the best compliment you can give to a runner's shoe. Frees your mind to wander, focus on your form, enjoy the morning fresh air and the feeling of being alive. Human beings are naturally relative creatures. Once we get used to something better or more expensive, we only notice the bad things of a more 'regular' product. It was amazing to me that this did not occur with the Gt-2000. In fact, I find myself reaching out for this shoe as often as I do my Kayano or my Saucony Kinvaras (4). Surprisingly, the one that turned out most disappointing, perhaps again because the expectation was the highest due to the price, was the Kinsei (4). Twice (out of perhaps 1-2 dozen times) after 10km runs with the Kinsei, I felt soreness in my feet that bordered on pain. Considering its positioning as the highest end Asics, this was a big letdown. Nonetheless, the design is very creative and I still use those shoes a lot for casual walking. A final word about buying the latest model vs an older one. My view is unequivocal. Buy the older model!! They are much cheaper and unless you are Sebastian Coe, you won't notice the 'advance in technology'!! Most of these brands will discount as much as 40% to clear the older stock, which to me is a great bargain. So why would you pay 60% more (or $30) for the gt 3000 when you can get a perfectly brand new gt 2000 much cheaper? And these shoes wear out in less than a year anyway, when the gt 4000 will appear and your gt 3000 is no longer the latest model? This is one of the best arbitrages in the world, until the shoe makers wise up to this and stop discounting the last to latest models! In the meantime, pick up these great bargains. And happy running!!
Review: Give these shoes a chance - they have been fantastic for this overweight plantar-fasciitis challenged runner - I have read review after review about how bad these shoes are. That they are a far cry from the old 2000 series. My supply of 2160s finally ran out, and I have tried other Asics shoes (Kayano, etc, along with other brands), but I have continued to be riddled with injuries due to bad foot mechanics. I have tried various orthopedic inserts (including custom), but for three years have not found a shoe that I feel will keep me from getting injured. Well, I broke down and finally decided to judge the 2000 for myself. I need a slightly wider than average toe box, so I ordered the EEs. Right out of the box, the fit felt great; perfect "snugness." I would suggest "rounding up" on shoe width if you are in doubt, but after putting in some serious miles, my toes are blister-free and I couldn't be happier. I decided to go against the recommendations of the doctors and experts and just wear the shoe without any special inserts. Well, I completed my first 12 mile run in years last night, and aside from sore knees and muscles, my feet are 100% fine. I have not felt free to run without worrying about injury since I had my 2160s, and I could not be happier. The shoe does feel a bit lighter than the old 2000 series, but the cushioning feels 90% the same to me. And that slight reduction in cushioning and weight actually keeps my feet from moving around as much, which I believe results in better mechanics and less injury. Look, my review is just one anecdotal story about a guy who is thrilled with his shoes. But I have run tens of thousands of miles, won my share of local 5K and 10Ks (MANY years and pounds ago!), and completed 8 marathons. So I think my opinion counts for something. If you are looking for a great shoe, I urge you to please just give these a try. Thanks for reading!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great shoe, a bit tight.
*by S***N on May 11, 2014*

First off I've used just about every asics shoe in this series since 2150 and I generally appreciate the advancements in this model. Light, beautiful and supportive. However this year the shoe runs tighter than past years. I usually wear a standard D width which is perfect but I really needed a 2E this time because they're tight as anything I've used. They do work in a bit bit the tightness is still noticeable. I wear these shoes because I work retail and am on my feet all day and that gets painful in crapoy shoes, or shoes that fit my strange sense of style. Certainly I appreciate that I generally feel better in my back and knees since I've worn these. Just would recommend one higher width than normal and these are good. My wife still prefers the cushion of the Nimbus but for me this series is good. These also seem like the best constructed pair I've had in this series too so far which is good. I've had these shoes for about two months I think.
