The replacement works without any problem. My desk is a small mobile desk, like a mobile computer station at a hospital, and the surface is only around an inch thick and made of particleboard. To increase the stability of the mount stalk, I placed the circular plate provided for the grommet installation option in between the plate for the C-clamp and the desk surface. That was a useful addition and removed some flex that the mount was having from the lack of density of the particleboard. I wanted to use this to move two monitors from sit to stand height quickly but just like all the other arms I have tried, it's more work than it's worth to move the height so I just have both monitors stay in one position. It's super sturdy with them high in standing position, though so that is a bonus.
