Great mandrel and sanding setup...
This was perfect. I was having issues with my spindle sander, and when I looked at new ones, they were so ridiculously expensive. So I then thought about making my drill press into my spindle sander since I had both my old spindle sander, and oscillating sander on the opposite side of a flip cart. I fiddled with different ways using threaded rods, and plywood rings. But they just weren't very good. So I used this mandrel and it's pieces, and it turned out perfect after I matched up some bearings and put in an adapter to my drill press table. All in all, it's doing great.

Excellent Mandrel!
This is an excellent quality product which I have used together with the Shop Fox D2677 Drum Sander Set. The mandrel should also work with other rubber drums 4 1/4" to 4 1/2" long that have the 1/2" hole. I've used it in a Craftsman 8" drill press with great results.

tool works as described. Despite length, is plenty rigid for sanding inside curves on hardwood. The 1" diameter won't tighten enough to firmly hold the sanding drum in place. It walks up or down. Can easily be repositioned. I will need to find a washer of the right ID and OD to get a little more squish on the rubber hub to grip the drum more firmly. Despite problem, still think it's worth the price.

Sturdy
Mandrel is sturdy and true in the drill chuck with no off-center vibration. It did not come with a lock washer to keep the nut from coming loose during use. And as noted in my review of the rubber sanding drums/sleeves it is to be used with, it cannot be tightened down hard enough to keep the sanding sleeves from slipping on the drums.

Just like other guy who did review it will not fit. I will have to use a lathe and take off a bit of material to be 3/8.

Didn’t even get use it. Upon tightening the thread bolt sheared off. Junk do not buy.
