Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Cat Food, Real Rabbit, 4.5 lb. Bag | Single animal protein and vegetable recipe, raw-coated kibble, farm-raised rabbit, gentle on sensitive stomachs

I have an 8 year old cat who has been having some pretty serious GI issues. We always struggled to keep him under 14 lbs, but during his last episode he registered as 11.5 with no change in appetite/cat feeder changes. This has been very concerning. We’ve had labs and imaging, with no real answers. While we’re still trying to figure out exactly what’s wrong, our vet suggested Instinct rabbit based food in case chicken sensitivity is an issue. We gradually changed/mixed in as directed. And all 3 cats seem to really like the new food. The cat in question has had some more interesting litter box deposits than the other 2, but that’s likely just due to whatever is going on, not just because of the diet change. They’ve been on this for about a month now, and I think we’ll stick with Instinct for the time being. PROS: -limited ingredient list -cats are just as excited about this as their previous food -higher quality -notably softer coats CONS: -Price -Largest size of rabbit protein food is 10lbs and I’d personally like a 22lb bag -stinky food- smells like fish food -foul feces odor (I literally have to take it right out after the sensitive one goes number 2. He’s always had smellier BM’s than the other two. I still don’t notice the smell of theirs even on this food.) I’ll take a happy healthy cat and a stinky litter box over constant vomiting and pain. All the cats have softer shinier coats since switching. And sensitive kitty’s stools are a little firmer with time, but still notably softer than with the other food. The other cats’ BM’s haven’t changed outside of color, but that’s likely because of the color of the food. Other observation: the kibble in the bigger bag is smaller than the kibble in the smaller bag we used as a trial. I prefer the smaller size so I will continue to purchase the larger bag.

This Instinct Limited Ingredient Real Rabbit recipe (4.5 lb bag) was an instant hit in my house. I bought it because one of my cats has significant food allergies, and I’ve been working through different proteins to find one that doesn’t cause problems. Novel proteins can be hard to find, so rabbit seemed worth testing. The kibble/pieces are small and thin, so they are very easy on sensitive teeth. Apparently, it was more than worth it. My cats lost their minds the second I opened the box that the bag arrived in. I’m talking full attention, wide eyes, stalking, chasing — the works. Even my “professional napper” cat suddenly turned into an athlete. I’ve started using pieces as rewards and tossing them across the room because they’ll actually run, leap, and catch them in midair. Considering they’re already spoiled with freeze-dried chicken, salmon, whitefish, and premium foods, that says a lot about how appealing this must taste. The limited-ingredient formula is a huge plus for cats with sensitivities, and the price feels reasonable, given that rabbit is a less common protein. One heads-up: the kibble is almost black in color, and it can cause very dark stools, which surprised me at first. Also, transition slowly and store it securely because determined cats will absolutely find a way into the bag. Great quality, excellent for elimination diets, and clearly a favorite here. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This cat food has been a godsend! My cat developed a sensitivity or allergy to something and was having terrible diarrhea every day. Tried the meds and special food the vet recommended -Science Hill ZD - hydrolyzed food, which should have eliminated any sensitivity issues. It improved a bit for a while, but then my cat got worse again. And the Science Hill is soooooo expensive!! So I asked about another brand of hydrolysed food , which would have been even MORE expensive. I decided to go to our local pet store and see what they had, and bought this brand. It had limited ingredients, no grains, and no chicken. I was pretty sure that was what my cat was sensitive to, since it was in the food I used before the SH. I chose rabbit because she’s never had that before. And she is now doing beautifully!! No diarrhea since she transitioned to this food. Her poo is a little smellier than previously when she was healthier, but WAYYYYY better than the diarrhea. She has put on weight and her fur is glossy, and she is her old self. This food is more expensive than some, but if you are having an issue with standard foods, try this before you go to the Science Hill ZD!! Update: 3 months later! My cat is doing great with this food. Her fur is glossy and smooth, with no flaky, itchy skin. Her eyes are bright and she is happy. So am I!

My male orange tabby, Louis, is almost 15. In the last year he was getting scrawny and agitated, after being healthy his whole life. Turns out he has a hyperactive thyroid, a common disorder in older cats that is very serious. There’s a radioactive injection the vet can place in the thyroid to stop its over-production, but it costs $1500, which I just do not have. Lou would not eat the Hill’s prescription thyroid food the vet gave him, so I had a real problem. I did a LOT of online research and realized I needed to change Lou’s diet, to a more simple, far less carbo, protein-rich diet with very little iodine (it jacks up thyroid function). Cats are carnivores and do not need a carbo-laden diet (which most commercial cat foods are); it’s better to go for as raw and simple a formula as possible, mainly protein. I removed all foods with fish in them, all treats and the occasional canned tuna snack from Lou’s diet (he LOVES tuna, but fish is very high in iodine) and gradually titrated him onto this Instinct Rabbit dry food. He liked it from the start! I also now give him a separate pouch a day of the wet Instinct Duck or Rabbit food topper, in addition to his water, to keep him plumper & better hydrated. (I did try a liquid homeopathic thyroid control supplement in his food, but he HATED it, and he won’t let me put the dropper in his mouth, so I had to stop it.) Long story short, although this diet will not cure him, It has reduced his thyroid production, and he’s put on some weight and is much calmer. One note: the Instinct Rabbit dry kibbles are VERY dark in color, kinda smelly, and produce UNBELIEVABLY stinky poop! Even when using the best cat litter. So put the cat box near a cracked window and invest in a good organic room spray! Seriously, if that’s the price to pay to keep my dear little buddy with me awhile longer, in better health, I’m happy!

My older cat had been vomiting for months now and also had diarrhea. Vomiting 2-4 times a day. Diarrhea everyday. I changed her food numerous times. All top brand food with no bi products.. Nothing worked. I brought her to the vet. Blood work good. X rays good. Set up appointment for sonogram since the vet mentioned lymphoma or IBD. After doing some research I found that many cats have bowel disease and a good choice is limited ingredient cat food with Rabbit. I took a chance and bought this brand in both wet and dry since I feed my cat both. I did not expect any change. I was truly amazed how within one day of feeding her this food she stopped vomiting and her stools were a normal color and tight. She is cured and I saved money on the sonogram. She likes the taste so that's good as well. Please remember every cats situation is different. What works for my cat may not work for yours depending on what their issue is and if they like the taste. This food is pricey but well worth it if it helps your cat and saves your carpet if you have. Those vomit stains are tough to get out. This will be my cats food for the rest of her life.

BUYER BEWARE!! I purchased this item 2 weeks ago. Upon feeding it to my cat, I immediately noticed a darkening of my cat's stool (black). Plus her stool was EXTREMELY STINKY! I passed it off as her digestive system adjusting to a new product. I also noticed she would burp after consuming the product. Again, I thought her system was just adjusting. However, over the course of several more days she went from pooping just once per day to anywhere between 2-4 times in a 12 hour period. In the latest incident this morning, which by the way was the "last straw", she pooped 5 times in an 8-9 hour period. The first was firm, 30 min later it was soft . 7-8 hours after that she had flat out diarrhea (2X), accompanied by excessive howling and finally vomiting. I then began reading some of the negative product reviews and discovered others have been experiencing the same issues. I wish I had read them before purchasing this product! My guess is that the product must be contaminated with some toxins, pesticides, antibiotics, or growth hormones depending on where the ingredients are being sourced. I believe Instinct needs to step up and have their product tested by an independent lab and issue a recall before someone loses their cat because of this "so called" cat food. Sadly, I have to issue a "1 star" rating, because Amazon's system won't permit me to issue anything less. However, my TRUE rating of this product is "0 stars". The first thing that you mention is darker stool, this is actually very normal for the LID Rabbit kibble as it is a very dark meal and will often turn the stool an extremely dark color; this is safe and normal. When introducing a new food we recommend doing a slow transition to avoid any stomach upset or loose stool. We recommend slowly increasing the amount of new food being added to the present food over a period of 3-4 weeks. This normally looks like 1/4 of the new food with 3/4 of the old for the first week and then increasing to 1/2 and 1/2 the next week and so forth until after about 3-4 weeks, your pet is fully transitioned to the new food. If any digestive upset or loose stool occurs, make the transition more gradual. With all of our products, we utilize robust systems to ensure the quality and safety of our foods. This is the food Phoebe Buffay was referring to in her Hit single "Smelly Cat". I have never smelt poo so rancid in my entire life. And that's coming from someone who's been in the medical field for nearly 15 years and a lifetime of over 30 years of being a cat Mom. My 3 were on this food for due to 1 of them having food allergies. I know it takes a while for tummies to adjust, but after over 3 months eating it there was no relief on the smell or the bad gas it gave them. Not all foods are for every animal, so take this review as you'd like. Instinct is a great brand, just not fit for my kitties with this recipe.

I had a cat that kept having loose stool. I gave her the cat probiotic for a week to calm down and then springwater only but this limited ingredient rabbit. I feel bad about it, but it’s nature rabbit really seem to make this poor little cat I found have much better stool quality. It’s a lot better than a sensitive stomach formula. Just limited ingredient is great because I had her poop tested and she had no worms or bacteria. She just has a sensitive, allergic food, stomach, and this rabbit limited ingredients Beadiant stuff work great

Been feeding both the Rabbit and the Turkey flavours for the past 2 years, and the cats still look forward to this food everyday.

猫2匹ともに食物アレルギー疑いでロイヤルカナンのアミノペプチドフォーミュラを食べさせてますが、食いつきが悪く試しに購入しました。フードの黒さにびっくり。1匹はくいつき良好。1匹は匂いが苦手だったようで初めはこのフードだけ残していましたが、徐々に食べてくれるようになりました。少量ずつ混ぜてゆっくりフードの切り替えをしていましたが、3割ほど切り替えた頃から猫2匹ともに下痢してしまい、初めて食べる食材だからか合わなかったようです。高価なフードなので少ない量での販売があればもっと試しやすいと思います。
