Twas the Night: The Art and History of the Classic Christmas Poem

Heartfelt, well-researched and illustrated. The author's enthusiasm for her subject is obvious. At times the narrative strays, loses focus, or gets bogged down in unnecessary details. Regarding the authorship of the "Twas the Night..."poem, the book's author presents evidence supporting several possibilities, but seems (?) to conclude that Clement C. Moore wrote it. Particularly towards the end of the book, extraneous material--having to do with Christmas, but not the poem--is presented, as if the author is padding the book to reach a certain page count. Editing is weak as there are spelling errors in the book, as well as awkward syllabications.

This was a Christmas gift to myself, the stories are wonderful and the art work just brings it all togethera good read for Christmas season. This is a book you pass down though the family.

I purchased this Book to read to my Grandchildren on Christmas Eve. My thoughts were to give them the appreciation of books verses the cell phone.What a surprise when the book arrived. It is 250 pages of interesting facts, history and pictures about the Christmas tradition based on the Poem “The night before Christmas”.I was so impressed that I purchased addition copies for my Children and family friends.This book “Twas the Night” is a treasured work of art.

This book has very extensive information and beautiful artwork. A must for any fan of the poem.

I have loved this poem my whole life and enjoy reading it to my four year old grand-daughter. This book offers so much fascinating information about not only the poem but the poet. The art work is stunning and particularly wonderful were the vintage illustrations.
