Most sable brushes I come across are either miss advertised or just poor quality in general but these ones so far have been rather pleasant. I’m mainly a squirrel hair user when it comes to my watercolor brushes due to sable being hit or miss but I think these will be my go to sable brushes from now on. Perfect travel size for the small carry-on I use. Now they do hold less water than squirrel hair but it’s still a decent amount and sable brushes like these retain their shape very well. Squirrel hair, due to how soft it is, doesn’t bounce back into shape like sable does. So if you want stiffer bristles for finer detailed work these are a great choice. A sleek metal case that screws on and off add points for me because it feels more secure when in use and I don’t have to worry about possibly losing the tube. Only downside is I bought the version on this listing that wasn’t advertised as Fuumuui brushes, if another seller is going to sell a different company’s product on their listing I would prefer them being more upfront about it. I have owned Fuumuui brushes in the past and they never steered me wrong before but you have to be incredibly mindful with that brand. More often than not their synthetics are poor quality. The real hair ones like these however are amazing. Just make sure when getting sable that you are sure of what you are purchasing, and always look for Kolinsky in the listing since that is real weasel hair. But if you are okay with synthetic because of more ethical sourcing then by all means go ahead and get that instead, it’s just more likely to be poorer quality.

I purchased several watercolor brush travel sets as I was looking for the “right one” for gifting my adult daughter, and I planned to keep one for myself as well. This set was the winner for me. It is simple, lightweight, compact. The case is easy to open and small enough to put in a pocket or small art bag. Material is soft and looks like thin leather, and sturdy. The brushes fit perfectly. The brushes are streamlined, lightweight, and esthetically pleasing. They put together with a twist, so are stable. Top part stores in handle and again is held in with a little twist. I love the look and feel of these brushes.

I like them so far. I did have to glue the brush end back into the middle piece with the threads. Other than that, I can paint fine with them. I like the portability of them for sketching in the field.
