Q: How good would this be for leather?

I believe that it would work fine as long as the piece of leather wasn't to thick and you took your time with it.

Q: Will this work on sneakers?

I have got 2 of these. I used them to put holes in pouch lithium batteries and connect them with the brass Eyelets. If your sneakers already have the holes punched then yes they will great replacing the Eyelets. I bought a low cost metal nippers for removing old eyelets. I also picked up a nice heavy duty hole punch do yo the fact that the hole side on these pliers is made of pot medal and can brake after extended use but the pliers side is strong and works great for pressing in the eyelets. If you want to make hole in the canvas sneakers you my want to buy the manual hole punch ( 1 you use with a hammer.) That snecker material can be pretty tuff stuff. Inclusion this pliers that is a great deal for the price and the 100 eyelets included.
