Lacquer-Stik Paintstick, Gold

I purchase several things on Amazon and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description, I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Sellers have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR

I used the gold stick on a new Remington 1100 LT 20 gauge. The gold really pops the engraving on the dark blued receiver and barrel. Easy to apply and I second the recommendation of another user: wipe the gold off using paper towel which I believe will allow more of the gold to remain in the engraving as compared to using a soft cloth. Can't comment on longevity but I suppose the filler will last longer if you're careful with it. Regardless, it's a beautiful change and the gold is the perfect choice on a dark blued firearm. Update: gold inlay seems to hold up well. Photos are after 100 rounds of sporting clays and full cleaning of barrel and action.

The lacquer stik does a good job of filling in and highlighting engravings on wood, such as a signature on the bottom or a textured surface decoration. You need to take a utility knife or similar blade to cut the dried edge off in order to get to useable paint, then smear it on and wipe it off. Be sure to wipe off immediately with a soft cotton cloth (it may take some elbow grease and frequent changes to a fresh surface of the cloth). Dries hard and can be finished with wipe on Poly, lacquer, shellac, etc.

This stuff works awesome. I have been using it for years. I just ordered a new stick and scrolled down to all the negative reviews because there are no instructions! Seriously, people need instructions for this? Well here you go! CLEAN SURFACE WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL, APPLY AND WIPE OFF EXCESS... Your welcome.

I have now used this on several guns, and it works as intended. It gives a bright inlay with the color stick that is chosen. There is one small issue, and that is on a gun with a cerakote finish. It gets down in the "pores" pf the finish, and leaves a colored sheen on the surface outside the engraved area. Mineral spirits will remove it, but at the same time, it also removes some of the material down inside the engraving. It works perfectly on a smooth, blued gun surface.

No directions come with this product. There were no on-line instructions that I could find. There was one video that showed the lacquer sticks and then did a fast-forward to the final result without actually talking about or showing how to apply it. The ONLY instructions I could find about how to use this product were from the reviews I read here and they all differ. My end result? So so. We shall see how it holds up. If not, I'll use gold nail polish as was used in a video that actually talked about and showed how to highlight engravings. My recommendation is to move along and search for a better product and see if you can find instructions before your purchase. But then, most all other products one purchases come with instructions.

I did an inlay on an HK P30. It was beautiful and easy. Clean up the excess with a little ru Bing alcahol.
