Understanding how diet can greatly lessen the risk of developing gallstones
A good friend of our family had gallstones, unbeknown, and ended up having emergency surgery. We’ve seen the dietary changes that friend has had to make, and it has impacted on their lifestyle too. It makes sense that the dietary change after the fact will prevent the same thing from happening again, and I was interested in the premise of this book that there is a diet that could dissolve gallstones and prevent a situation like that of our friend from happening.Reading the introduction about the most common ways to treat gallstones, depending on their size and make-up was really interesting. Stones with high cholesterol and under 1.5cm in diameter are well treated with prescribed oral dissolution, but can take up to 2 years to work and do not prevent new stones from forming. Losing weight steadily obviously improves your health, and is the best way to prevent stones from forming. This book gives suggestions for improving gallbladder function to help your digestive system to work properly, and is common sense and in line with official guidance – more veg, eat regularly, opt for healthy fats, avoid sugar and fat. It even provides options which can help someone who is having a gallbladder attack, such as mint tea, magnesium, heat or apple cider vinegar. The book offers advice on safe, natural remedies to treat gallbladder issues, such as carrot juice, fennel, ginger, berries, nuts and drinking plenty of water. The recipes cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks and an example 21-day plan is provided. The recipes use lots of healthy, low fat and low carb ingredients, and are fresh and tasty. While I don’t have gallstones that I know of, I’m going to try these recipes and cook for our now gallstone-free friend when they next come to visit. I am going to incorporate some of the delicious smoothies into my diet, like the berries and spinach one. I’m a huge fan of iced tea too and there are blackberry, strawberry and mint versions that I’m looking forward to trying.

Nicely presented book
Most recipes are what I would call 'niche' i.e. tending towards veggie.

Waste of money
Opening chapter gave information on possible but unproved foods and supplements. The recipes could have been written by your average 10yr old and overall anyone with an iota of sense knows to cut out saturated fats and increase fruit and veg. Think I will send this back

Ordered for my daughter. She liked the information about this painful condition and has tried some of the recipies already. Order arrived ahead of delivery date. Pleased with my nearly new purchase.

Cover is very misleading
The book does give some good recipes, but the cover is very misleading. There are no recipes for Halloumi, roast chicken, kebabs, cup cakes, mozzarella balls, or asparagus wrapped in bacon. When previewing the book before you buy, you can't see the contents list so assume that these are in the recipes. Don't decide to buy this book based on the cover images as you will be disappointed.

Dull
Gall bladder friendly recipes were never going rock my socks off I guess but these were very dull.

All in black and white, boring and uninspiring
Why cant the pictures be in colour? Its black and white and boring, looks like someones just photocopied a colour version and stucknit together. Now in the back of a cupboard

Some interesting, tasty recipes
Bought this cookery book following a gallbladder op, it certainly made my life easier at a time when I didn’t know what I should be eating. It helped me understand what my food choices should be. Glad I bought it.

Educational Diet Cookbook!
This book has a whole selection of information about the gallbladder, gallstones, and dieting to try and improve your health. The beginning of the book was especially helpful and educational. It talked all about possible issues that your gallbladder can face and the ways in which you can go about combatting them. While some of it will always be out of your control, you can still try and improve your diet and become healthier to look after yourself. This was very encouraging to me personally.I also really liked the layout and suggestions of this book. The food options were refreshing and there were plenty that I bookmarked to try in the coming weeks. I especially liked how, at the end of the book, there were fun drink options, from mocktails to lattes. I hadn’t even fully considered how I would integrate healthy drinks into this diet, so getting some suggestions was helpful. To anyone hoping to look after their body and remove unhealthy things from their diet, I would suggest this book. It’s very well-labelled and easy for anyone to understand at any stage.Thank you for all these amazing food and diet suggestions!

Easy to follow with variety of recipes
Easy to follow! I like that in the recipes, it gives two ways of determining the measurements for ingredients, like: "10 grams (1/4 cup) fresh parsley" since we often use a food scale for cooking. Makes it a lot easier than looking up conversions!Their meal plan is also nice, although it doesn't account for leftovers from meals the day(s) before. Lots of variety in foods - multiple versions of pancakes, oatmeals, breads, smoothies, etc just for breakfast. Plenty of lunch and dinner recipes that have fresh ingredients and are healthy all-around meals. Excited to start working these into our meal plans!
