Coway Airmega 240 True HEPA Air Purifier with Air Quality Monitoring, Auto, and Filter Indicator, Warm Gray

After struggling with seasonal allergies in my family, I decided to try the Coway Airmega 240 True HEPA Air Purifier—and I'm so glad I did! This unit has made an impressive difference in the air quality of our home. It's designed to clean spaces up to 403 sq. ft. in just 12.5 minutes and can handle up to 975 sq. ft. in 30 minutes, making it both efficient and powerful. The HyperCaptive Filtration System is a true standout, featuring a dynamic combination of a washable pre-filter, active carbon filter, and Green True HEPA Filter. It captures 99.999% of particles as small as 0.01 microns, tackling everything from pollen and pollutants to other allergens. Additionally, it effectively reduces 99% of volatile organic compounds and odors, which has noticeably improved our living space. One of my favorite features is the cartridge design of the filters. Unlike other purifiers that create a dusty mess during maintenance, the Coway Airmega's filters are housed in a single portable cartridge that's incredibly easy and clean to replace. The easy touch display adds convenience, allowing control over fan speed, power, and more with just a simple touch. The auto mode is particularly impressive, automatically adjusting the fan speed based on real-time air quality readings, ensuring the most effective purification at any moment. I bought a 230 in Sage Green in September of 2023, around the time they first released. It has been running 24/7 at speeds 1-2 since then, with negligible stopped time. I have been pleased with it, so I finally bought a replacement filter for that one in April 2025 (approximately 18 months on a single filter) and purchased another 230. Long story short, this air filter has proven reliable, appears to be reasonably (and anecdotally) responsive to changes in air quality, is aesthetically pleasing, and is easy to maintain. Cost of entry is fairly low, and cost of operational maintenance (time, ease, filter cost) is also comparatively low. I currently run two of these Coway 230's and a Blueair 680i for a 1250 sq.ft (116 m²) apartment. Adjacent units' air leaks into our unit (shared compressor and vent), which means food odors, tobacco (and "other") smoke, and sometimes mildew/mold. The building was built in the 1970s, and there are issues with leaking roofs, poor ventilation in the underground parking, etc. We also have cats, which means litter dust, litter smell, and hair/dander. Of course, we also produce our own air pollutants, like cooking odors or aerosolized products. The Coway has done very well in whichever room it's in, reducing odors and dust. It's fairly quiet at all speeds, although 3 is the maximum fan speed and is loud, though not at all intolerable. There have not been any unusual noises, like squeaks or vibrations. The pre-filter is easy to clean with a vacuum or with water, and helps keep the primary filter media free of large debris like clumps of cat hair. The filter media itself is very large and has a lot of pleats, which means more surface area, for lower load on the blower (more efficient and less energy consumption) and more overall filtration capacity (longer overall life before loss of efficiency). Compared to the much larger Blueair, there are some observations that people may like to know: The 680i is significantly larger, designed to perform five air changes per hour for a 770 square foot (72 m²) room. That means that even at the lowest speed, it will generally outperform the Coway, which can perform the same number of air changes in a 403 square foot (38 m²) room. I believe that most air purifiers measure their air changes at the highest blower speed. A larger unit will have a larger blower, which means running the 680i at the lowest and nearly silent speed will still be moving as much air as the Coway at the maximum and loudest speed. For those sensitive to noise or with a need to minimize ambient noise, it may benefit you to oversize the filter for your application. The prefilter is a win for Coway. I have to vacuum the filter in the Blueair monthly to make sure it's not blocked up with debris. It can be heard as buffeting at the blower output. The cats like quality time in the bedroom, so there's always hair. While I haven't cut up the Blueair filter, it is dimensionally smaller than the Coway filter. One may cautiously assume that they deliver equivalent performance as they are both HEPA. This is not an accurate comparison of filter efficacy, since surface area and static pressure, and as a function of those, dwell time of air through the filter is a good measure of filter performance. Basically, I like big filters with lots of frontal surface area. Coway draws air through almost the entire front face. The Blueair draws air from one side to the other, which means a smaller filter intake area. The Blueair body is made of die stamped, powdercoated steel. It's heavy duty and durable, but weighs at least twice the Coway. It even has casters. Durability of the housing may not matter to you, but the Coway is a bit flimsy. This is not a concern to me, but something you may want to consider. The Blueair is a clamshell design, and when you open the rear side, it swings out so you can access the filter and interior. To replace the filter in the Coway, you pop off the front shell. It's easy, but the clips are plastic and the shell is flexible, perhaps too much so. If you were to be clumsy, you may damage it. The air quality indicator on the Coway is extremely bright. It can be switched off, which is a considerate feature. The Blueair lacks this. However, it's nothing a bit of tape can't fix. The smart function on the Coway will run the blower at an extremely low speed or it will shut off if the air is clean and has stayed clean for a long time. The Blueair will run continuously on the lowest speed.

I only purchase Coway air purifiers cause I trust their quality and what it’s made for. I have one 150 model and 300S model. I got my parent a 150 for the bedroom and a 250S model for living room. I’ve recently just got this 230 model. 230 is the best from all the ones I have and my parent. The reason why I like this one the most is because it really cleans any smell and really cleans the air. The reason I got this is because the Eaton fire in LA and were pretty close. Air got in and smells like smoke and if it smells like smoke inside the house, there’s going to be a lot of toxic stuff. So it’s hard to cook when we have to close windows and I had to seal the fireplace and a window near the kitchen so cooking is hard due to the smell. Anyways I had to cook and this model cleaned out the smell and air less than an hour. The air it blows out is pretty strong and goes quite far. I had put it between the kitchen and living room which is not big but it does what it’s suppose to do. It’s not loud but there’s sound. The sound is bearable. But I assume it has to make some kind of sound because the air blows good generous amount so that’s got to use some kind of power. I had put on level 3 for the smell of fire the first day. Next day, the living room and kitchen hardly had any smell of smoke. It has clean and sleek design and I like it’s not so chunky. It’s a good size. It’s bigger than the 150. I also like the buttons are not complicated. It’s easy to use. The tap on the buttons are sensitive and easy to touch. The one little round light to show it’s on or off and air quality is bright enough to let me know it’s on. It’s not that bright that it bothers me. Has timer, sleep mode, smart mode. All those functions are useful and not complicated to understand. If I need to buy another air purifier, this will be the model I would get. I usually prefer to buy one that provides more square footage than the space I plan to use.

I bought two 230s and 2 150s, for a 1790 square foot home. Downstairs is hardwood flooring, upstairs is fully carpeted. I have one 230 unit for all of downstairs since the dust is already minimal on that floor. A 230 in the master bedroom as it's a bigger room and typically the bigger units run quieter. I put the 2 150s into the other bedrooms that my wife and I utilize as office spaces. Upon unpackaging and setting these up (which was a total breeze by the way, documentation provided is perfect), they immediately went to work cleaning the air. The air quality sensor is extremely sensitive and the color scheme is easy to understand and the LED is bright. We kept all of our units on auto initially, and they immediately go to work cleaning the air, LEDs changing color as the air gets cleaner, the unit also getting quieter until the light is blue and the unit is whisper quiet. If the air is clean for a while the unit goes into sleep mode to save power. But as soon as we cook or do anything that may disrupt the air quality the sensors detect it and kicks the unit into gear to clean up the air. We haven't had them long enough to notice if the levels of dust have been reduced, but we can already notice an improvement in the air quality. The air is fresher and there's way less smells left lingering, especially after cooking which we do a lot of. Bacon smell was gone after a couple of hours. Maintenance seems easy enough and the company has a good reputation for support and reliability so I'm hoping these units last a good while. So far very happy and would highly recommend these if you want to clean up your air and cut down on dust and smells.

Pros - works well. Cleans out any big smells in my living room within 10-15min on high. Lock button seems to work as my cats love to stand on it to turn it off. Very sensitive to cooking smells and on smart mode, it kicks into high gear when it turns yellow/red. - easy to clean the pre-filter Cons - It thinks that water vapor from my nearby humidifier is pollution and the air quality indicator hovers around yellow/red. Despite that, I live near a parkway and the air stays clean. It does clean very well but not everything - you will still need to vacuum. It was a great upgrade from a smaller one, different brand purifier I had.

We have been using this air filter for about 2 weeks now and so far it has been working well! We have three cats and live in about an 1,000 sq ft apartment and we placed it in between the living room/kitchen and the office where the cat litter box is. Two of my cats have been suffering with an asthmatic cough from something, maybe new litter or just seasonal stuff. They got off their meds around the time we started using the airfilter so I cant say for sure if the air filter or the meds was the primary driver in fixing the issue, but they are no longer coughing and have not started back up again. We switched to a wood based litter that while claims is dust free, does have an entirely different dust than normal clay litter that is super fine and gets everywhere. I think the filter is helping with this, but I think it would help more if we moved it closer to the litter box. The sensor is pretty sensitive, we have it on the smart setting, and it picks up the speed whenever we are cooking (it is not near the kitchen so im not worried about it sucking in grease or anything). The highest speed can be a little loud, the middle speed is no louder than a normal plug in fan, and the lowest setting is virtually silent. I work from home and sit a few feet from the air filter and I often forget its there. If you want this for your sleeping area I think it would be fine. It mostly sits at the lowest setting - at least for me, I live in northern rural virginia so the air quality is good here. I am glad I got this particular air filter because of the pre filter, having three cats and being able to prevent too much cat hair from getting into the actual filter that I cannot clean was important to me. The pre filter is easy to clean with the small handheld vacuum. I am going to try and remember to update this in a few months with any additional comments.

I purchased the Coway Airmega 230 in dove white. I was looking for an air purifier that worked with a smart plug...meaning that when you cut power to it and power it back on, it "remembers" the settings and comes back on automatically. This one does...with one small caveat. When power is restored via the smart plug, the unit comes back on at the same fan speed as it was at when power was cut. However, the settings for the lights on the unit are not maintained. Meaning, if you have the lights turned off, when you turn the smart plug back on, all the lights will come back on. A small annoyance but overall happy with the fan speed being maintained. The video on this review shows this scenario. I was also looking for an air purifier without an ionizer - and this one does not have an ionizer (I confirmed with Coway support before ordering). Something else that I didn't realize before receiving the purifier was that the Sleep mode this unit has seems to use a combination of a light sensor as well as the particle sensor. Example - if the unit is on Smart mode and the room gets dark and the air particle sensor doesn't detect an increase in particles for a small amount of time, the until will automatically go into Sleep mode, which turns the fan down extremely low. When the lights come back on in the room, it automatically comes out of Sleep mode after a few minutes and goes to one of the other 1-3 fan modes. This was a nice feature for Smart mode that I didn't really see advertised / explained anywhere for this particular model (some of the other Coway models have a Sleep mode described like this which is how this model seems to function too). The only downside so far with this unit are the lights on the top - especially the air quality light. It is extremely bright and in a dark room it lights up the whole room. It's nice you can turn the lights off though with the button on the top (you can turn just the air quality light off or all lights (including the mode lights). Not so nice they come back on after toggling with my smart plug, but I will solve this minor annoyance with some white tape. Overall I am very happy with this air purifier - it works great, it looks great, and I have it integrated with Apple HomeKit via a smart plug. I have as "smart" of purifier as I need from a very trusted brand now.

The large surface area and thickness of the filter are excellent. The unique easy in/out cleanable pre-filter makes it so easy to clean it (with a vacuum cleaner). The best for keeping clean. I also like the colored air-quality indicator light, which can be seen and understood from anywhere in the room, but it is too bright, and turning it off is not what I want, so I had to put a white sticker over the colored light to reduce its brightness. Problem easily solved. Amazon sells the LED brightness-reducing stickers. As with other air purifiers, the Auto mode is unusable due to going asleep automatically. I leave it set on 1, which is fine; no real complaint about that. The only thing I like about Auto mode is that it provides an auditory indication when the air has become polluted, so it would be nice if the purifier makers could figure out how to make Auto modes really work right, like not going to sleep automatically, and allowing the user to set the minimum Auto speed, and prevent the Auto from turning off the air-quality light. They should provide a sticker to reduce the LED brightness along with the unit, so users don't have to find one themselves. Or maybe even a variable brightness setting. Even with the small negatives, this is the best air purifier I have found for the price. I bought a second one after liking the first one. However, I also bought and use multiple Winix 5500-2 and Winix 5300-2 purifiers, because they have better air-quality sensors, and even though the Winix filters are not as large, and the Winix pre-filters are not as easy to clean, it's good to have both, because the Winix units let you know when the air is polluted way more often than the Coway does. If you can afford it, it's better to have many air purifiers operating at low speed, than to try and rely on one for a large area operating at higher speed. The lower the speed, the better the filtration, the less often the filters need cleaning, and the lower the fan noise.

Works great! (I know because first filter full of new dust every day… easy to clean.) Removes odours. Cute colour. A welcome addition to our living space.

It works really well over all. I leave it on automatic and it senses when it needs to turn on, sets the fan speed automatically and turns the fan off when the air quality has improved. Looks good too. I've had it about a year and a half now and I recommend it.

I can't say enough good things about this Coway air purifier. Within just a day or two of using it, I noticed a huge difference—less dust, fewer sneezes, and the air just feels cleaner. It’s super quiet, even on higher settings, and the auto mode is genius—it adjusts fan speed based on air quality in real time. I also love the sleek, modern design—it blends right into the room without being an eyesore. The filter indicator is a helpful touch too. If you're on the fence, don’t be—this is hands-down one of the best investments I’ve made for my home and health.
