The colors look just like the picture. I would imagine it will hold up for kindergarten and first grade before we'd have to purchase another one. It does fit a folder and can still close easily. If my daughter was bigger I would have probably gone for the biggest size, but I'm pleased there was a smaller option for her that will still fit a take home folder and lunch box.
