If it is indeed Japanese Collagen, it is doubtful that the source is plant-based, since the Japanese are not known for their vegetarianism.  They even add fish flakes to their soy sauce.  To get a pure vegetarian meal in Japan, one has to ask for "Temple Food", e.g. what the Zen Buddhist monks eat.
