Newport Kayak Series 36lb Thrust Transom Mounted Saltwater Electric Trolling Motor w/LED Battery Indicator (24" Shaft)

Good motor for kayak. I like the short shaft. It also runs a long time on a 50ah LiFePO4 battery. My battery has its own charge indicator and Bluetooth capability so I don't have to use the motor's charge indicator. I ran it over 3 1/2 hours and when I got back to the launch ramp I had only used 25% of the charge! I was pretty impressed. I am using it on a 10 ft kayak with a side mount setup. I ran it mostly low speed, but some at higher speeds. I have two cons that I didn't deduct any stars for but still worth noting. The biggest one is at the lowest speed it goes a little fast for fishing. I wish low speed was only half as fast as it is. Not a huge deal but something to consider. Might be partly because my setup is pretty light weight and doesn't take much to push it. The other thing is that the motor is on the heavy side (I think about 20 lbs.). Not that it's a problem to handle, but on a side mount setup it sort of tilts the kayak a little so I try to shift my weight slightly to compensate. This is a minor issue but if that is how you plan to use it you should be aware of this. My battery is so light that it doesn't counterbalance the weight much if I favor it's weight on the opposite side of the cargo hole. Anyway, I'm really happy with it so far.

This is a great product from newport. Smooth quiet and very affordable. I use use it on my pelican catch110.

Works as it should. Smooth operation. Could be just a touch longer. Does not work well with solo inflatable pontoon fishing boats like the Colorado xt from bass pro as only 80% of the prop is submerged. Any speed above 2 and it sucks in air and moves no faster. Probably deserves 5 stars as it functions as it should, but I can’t help but feel they could have made it a few inches longer without sacrificing much on smaller kayaks.

I use this on my SeaEagle 285fpb inflatable fishing boat. With all my rods, my tackle back pack, the battery and me on board, this thing can haul my boat rather quick at full speed. The length of the handle is adjustable and the length of the shaft from handle to propeller is perfect for my boat. I primarily use this for freshwater, so I'm not sure how rust resistance the components are. But I do spray them with Corrosion X once a year for protection, just in case. It's very easy to install on my boat and not very heavy. Overall, this is one of the best value for the money when it comes to transom mounted electric trolling motors on the market.

I first purchased a Minn Kota Endura 50 and when it arrived the motor had a horrible grinding and popping noise. As stated on the packaging I called Minn kota rather than returning to Amazon for service. The nearest service center is about an hour away so I informed them I would rather simply return the faulty unit than drive an hour both ways twice to drop off and pick up. I then purchased this Newport 36 and when it arrived there was a huge hole in th box as if the whole motor was pulled through the box (thanks Amazon driver) however when I hooked it up to my battery it is whisper quiet. Another thing I noticed about the Minn Kota was that the transom mounting bolts on it were very sloppy where the Newport mounting bolts are tight and secure. Having examined both up close I would purchase the Newport over the Kota every time. Just my 2 cents.

Perfect motor for my Coracle! Speed 5 with the 36 pound thrust as about as fast as I would want to go. I went out for a couple hours and the motor worked perfectly for my experimental boat. The battery indicator lights indicated a full charge after a couple hours of fun, but the battery is taking some hours to recharge, so I don't know if the lights are accurate. I'm going to try it on my canoe next. I think the 55 pound thrust would be even better, but probably would drain the battery more. But the 36 is definitely perfect for the Coracle.

This is the second one of these we have purchased and they are both working beautifully. Easy to install. East to set up. Works great. No vibration. Lightweight enough. Easy to take off and put on. Perfect fit. Goes a good speed

I wanted to upgrade from my watersnake 24lb thrust to the Newport 36lb thrust because I wanted to get more speed out of my kayak for long distances..It was no faster, and actually a tad slower.. not enough pitch on the prop I’m assuming.. super difficult to try and get it to fit through peddle drive slot on a Bonafide ss10.7, plus it weighs 3x what the water snake does which makes it a real PITA. I expected to go from 4mph to 5, but actually only got 3.8mph out of it. Three bladed prop may help a little, but then it definitely won’t fit through any kayak hull. Returned it, probably going to try the watersnake 34lb thrust instead

Came in on time as promise. Fast but box Abit torn and crumpled. Still all component are intact. Will review again after installation and test. For now very satisfied with the product.

This trolling motor is just right for my kayak (with a 24" short shaft and a 2-blade propeller). The delivery is fast. And the best part? Newport Vessels' customer service! I had to modify the trolling motor: As seen on the attached pic, I had to turn around (180 degrees) the on/off and speed control handle on the head unit so that the handle faces me while I am seated on my kayak, and I contacted Newport Vessels for help/instruction. I literally received email reply from Newport Vessels within minutes, with all the detailed step-by-step instruction, and with some short video clips showing exactly how to do this. I also received several following up emails from Newport Vessels to ensure I got this done right. What can I say? This is the very best customer service I have had. I simply can't expect customer service any better than this! Thank you Newport Vessels. You have earned my confidence in purchasing anything from you next time! Cheers
