Secret London - An Unusual Guide ('Secret' guides)

The book is slender and easily-packed or carried.Very pleasing design and format, also. Many less-than-commonly-covered ideas, sites and sights are covered. Descriptions are brief and pleasant. I was cued to the Hunterian Museum in Lincoln's Inn Field by this guide. That suberb and, to me, incredibly important museum (perhaps the analogue of the Museum of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the USA) doesn't even rate a mention in other guides I've used and doesn't appear on some mapping programs, though the Sir John Soames museum across the park always appears. I am so grateful for this guide's tip to what I otherwise would have missed.This may not be a guide for a first-time visitor to London... or it might, if one doesn't want to follow the usual and expected routes but would like, instead, a number of other more personally-selected rewards. Oh, and it's a terrific bargain.

A lot of useful information. I hope to find some out of the way places to discover on my upcoming visit to London. It has been 30 years since my last visit, so a lot has changed, I am sure. I prefer to find unusual spots wherever I go, so I try to find this sort of guide before traveling. The book has a lot of interesting and unusual spots to visit, and the maps with marked locations, done by city areas, look to be especially great for allowing my and my travel buddy to find interesting side junkets on top of the big, "must see" things (like theater and Buckingham palace, for which we have tickets.)

This book is informative and a lot of fun. There are plenty of sights here that are unfamiliar to me, but plenty as well that will be known to many readers. A more accurate, if less marketable, title might have been LOTS OF PLACES IN LONDON THAT AREN'T NECESSARILY FEATURED IN THE MORE CONVENTIONAL GUIDE BOOKS--BUT SOME OF WHICH ARE.

Fantastic book! And not just for those who've been to London multiple times. You can easily go to the typical tourist places and also stop in to a couple of these in the same area. It gives you a better feel for the true city and all its nooks and crannies and secrets and quirks. It encourages exploration...what's not to love?

In the last two years, I have been to London four times and wanted to see less touristy things this time around. This book is awesome and just what I needed! I have a couple of friends who live in London (even one who was born and raised) - and even they didn't know about some of the things in this book. Had many great adventures thanks to the spots listed in the book. Also, for days I didn't want to carry the book around, I made a xerox copy of the maps and highlighted the locations I wanted to see that day, and was able to just walk around and find the locations just fine.

This was a real treat and much more than I expected. My wife and I are going to London soon and we will visit some of the places shown in this book. I've been a frequent visitor in the past and I must admit I hadn't heard of 90% of these interesting sites.

Thrilled with this book. I am off to London in three weeks and have a list of all the exciting recommendations. It is a must for anyone visiting London.

We used this guide on a recent visit to London, and found it useful, opening doors to the obscure we might not have noticed. The descriptions are accurate as far as we tested them, and the format is portable. There is another book with the same title - get both! More fun than Pokemon Go.

Super Insidertipps für eine London-Reise fernab der typischen Tourismus-Magneten wie dem Tower und Westminster Abbey. In dem Buch werden Orte eschrieben, die man als Tourist sonst wahrscheinlich nie zu Gesicht bekommen würde, einfach weil man nicht weiß, dass es sie gibt und sie durchaus einen Besuch wert sind. Ich werde mir auf meiner nächsten London-Reise den einen oder anderen Ort aus dem Buch ansehen, da mich die Beschreibungen sehr neugierig gemacht haben.

An excellent compendium of nifty things to see in London. Great photographs and easy to follow directions on how to find the sights. Recommended for everyone!
