Lenox Eternal 3-Piece Place Setting, Ivory -

My husband and I registered for this pattern in the 1980s because of its classic and elegant design, figuring that it would probably not be discontinued or, if it was, that we could contrast them with a more modern Lenox cream design. Well, here it is, decades later, and Lenox is still manufacturing Eternal with the same quality and look of the original. I cannot tell the difference between the ones manufactured in the 1980s and the ones I received earlier this month.Because we decided that it was time to add a few place settings to our existing pieces, we shopped around for sales and specials over the past year. We settled on Amazon because of price, a current special offer, and the ease of having it delivered to the house. Since china is fragile, we weighed the pros and cons of ordering online -- and finally decided that our past experience with Amazon's return policy for damaged merchandise would be enough. Not surprisingly, one of the four boxes shipped contained broken pieces. All I had to do was get on the phone with customer service, arrange for an exchange, print out the return labels, and wait for the replacement box. Fortunately, because I had 30 days to return the broken set, I waited until the replacement arrived. That box had a broken plate in it as well, but between the two boxes, I managed a complete, damage-free place setting. Because of my experience with breakage, I advise that you don't order through here for gifts when it might be difficult for the recipients to exchange items. And if you are counting on having enough place settings for a specific event, order well in advance to give yourself time to return any broken pieces.The china itself is cream-colored with 1/4" gold bands on the edges and insets. (I believe that Lenox also makes a white china version, but I've never seen it.) This simple design can be compatible with other gold-edged, Lenox cream china, even those with designs, making Eternal a good choice to fill out the number of place settings or serving pieces for a variety of patterns.Although Lenox claims that the china is dishwasher-safe, I recommend against putting in the dishwasher because of the gold edges. Yes, the china itself should withstand the heat and the harsh detergent, but I doubt the gold bands will. My husband's grandmother used to put her Lenox in the dishwasher all the time, however, without incident. I'm just not willing to take the chance with mine.My only complaint about this pattern is also its selling point: its simplicity. If you want your china pattern to be distinctive, Eternal is not for you. If, however, you are looking for a pattern that will never be dated or that highlights the food rather than the dishes, then this pattern is a great choice. Chances are, with a name like Eternal, this pattern should be manufactured for decades to come.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

I ordered two place settings to expand my current collection, which is aging. There are some differences between the older Eternal pieces and the new ones: the teacup is about 1 oz heavier, and much more opaque; the gold trim is appreciably thicker.Most importantly, one of the place settings was really nice; the other included pieces that should have been factory seconds. The gold band on one of the teacups was noticeably less gold (something that looked a little paler, but not approaching silver or platinum); the same teacup also had a gold dot on the side, between the handle and the rim, that was out of place; and the salad plate had a black dot on its surface.This place setting is going back. I only hope that the one I receive in its place isn't worse.

the gold band faded and or came off, I don't use citrus soap, I use regular cascade. the best Lenox can do is for me to purchase it again at 50 percent off. why would I buy the same product. such much for lifetime warranty. I only had that set less the 3 years ago, I had call them on the first year to let them know of the issue. horrible product.

I bought just the mug from this collection from Lenox intending to use it for drinking coffee. It's not like a normal coffee mug and holds only about 10 ounces to the top but it is definitely more dainty. I already have a teacup and saucer by Lenox which holds even less than this one that I use for tea (4 ounces). I tried using this for an 8-ounce cup of coffee but by the time I add sugar and cream it spills over the top. I guess it's really 10 ounces to the very, very top! The China pattern is lovely and can match just about anything - it's plain and simple as well as elegant. Lenox is something that holds its value for years and years - pieces can be added over time until the set is complete. Definitely recommend! The rim of these 'mugs' is thin, not thick as regular coffee mugs, in case anyone cares.

Gorgeous wares, but what are those blue marks at the bottom? Hopefully doesn’t mean they were out of spec in some way...Edit: to remove any marks, just scratch it off with your nails while running under warm water.

A long time favorite that PERFECTLY mixes and matches with Lenox Christmas ... the lovely holly pattern. LOVE IT!

I ordered this fine china recently after getting married and I am not disappointed in the least. Eventually, once we have a bigger home I look forward to hosting family get togethers at holiday time. I love the simplicity and elegance of the pattern. It is truly "eternal" in its timelessness and I can see myself celebrating with it for years to come. I love the gold and ivory together and feel that it will look lovely on any table I set and decorate, particularly in the fall and winter seasons. I am very happy with my purchase and decision to choose Lenox Eternal.

I bought this China to treat myself to have dinner in style. They are beautiful.

The product is really nice, if you receive it in decent condition. I ordered 4 originally, and had to get them replaced, because most of them had some sort of defect on them. There was either a black tarnished mark on the gold, or a chip in the gold, or black dot on the white portion of the cup. Even some of the replacements were defective. If that many cups are defective, they aren’t worth the price. I got them on sale, so I wasn’t as upset. I would never pay 50 dollars for these low quality cups. The 2 cups I kept, I like because they didn’t have any defects, and it’s still a nice looking cup for the 33 dollars I paid for each. I’m surprised that there isn’t better quality control at Lenox. They have other beautiful products, and I sure hope the other products are free from defects.
