Perfect for holidays and camping.
Having owned this for over a year now I thought it time to write a review. My original intention was to buy a mini rig to take on holiday and for using on our small boat as they work great outdoors. I was put off though by their lack of waterproofing and high cost. After doing some research I came across the earfun boom. I was a bit sceptical but intrigued at the random guy claiming he tuned it to almost perfection however other reviews showed it to be truly waterproof and good value for money. I used the discount code on one of the videos and bought it. The build quality looked great and from the very outset I was impressed by the sound. Taking it abroad I mainly used it by the side of the pool, on the balcony in the evenings, and for some background music in the room during the day. In all places I found the sound to be of great quality. I listen to a lot of music, sometimes through quite expensive speaker systems and I have to say this punches well above its weight. There's never been an occasion where it wasn't loud enough. As for the quality of sound I tend to listen to Rock and Metal. The sound is excellent and makes for a great listening experience. The battery life has always been more than enough. It's very durable as it's been bounced around work vans, and gone from one overnight bag to another. It's definitely waterproof as its been out in the rain and been thrown in bags with wet beach towels. I tend not to go on trips without it now. Some of the lads at work have big JBL units which although are louder definitely lack the quality of this. Even in a workshop environment it works well. The connectivity is seamless and its simple to set up. Without a doubt there's louder and better quality speakers out there but there always seems to be a down side. Either they're not waterproof, poor battery life or just stupidly expensive. For the money though this is a great all rounder and I love the sound quality and robustness. My only criticism....and it's certainly not a deal breaker, would be that when I throw it an a rucksack it's easily switched on by accident as the buttons sit proud. A recessed power button would be a great improvement. Another suggestion would be that they make a hard case available as I'd definitely spend the extra money to keep it better protected when it's not in use. Other than that I've been very happy with it. I'm very tempted to buy a second one for stereo sound as I think it would make for an even better listening experience when outdoors. I really don't feel the need to buy any more other Bluetooth speakers now. Yes, I'd highly recommend this!👌 Update. I bought a second one so that I would have a stereo pair. I used it recently outside at a family party. The sound quality was excellent, more than loud enough for a large garden and was fine when it started to rain. The battery's outlasted us......from around 5pm to about 4 in the morning and still had enough juice for some background music the next day before we went home. Awesome product. I'd still like to see an option for a soft shell type case for travelling.

A surprisingly good speaker at a great price
I did a fair amount of research before plumping for the Earfun L for £56. At Peter Jones & at Currys I listened to various devices, including the Flip 6 (£74) and JVC XSD5212A (£69). The Flip 6 should have won hands down as its 190 grams lighter, has 2W more power. Yet to my untrained ear it sounded too bright. One device that did sound better on Austrian tuner Olaf Lubanski's youtube samples is the Bose Soundlike Flex (£149), which has a fuller, pleasant bass sound. The Earfun L seemed to me to offer the best value. Amazon prime delivered within 24 hours, and I was excited to fire it up. It sounds pretty darn good! At first I tuned to the outdoor setting, but by morning I was preferring the indoor tuning. The device was delivered with the 0.50 tuning rather than Olaf Lubanski's 0.45 tuning I am happy with the sound at the supplied setting, but I will use software to revert to Olaf's critically acclaimed 0.45 setting. Bravo Earfun L for marketing a decent-sounding speaker at a fair price! I would be highly skeptical of the 16 hour battery life, which the manual describes as dependent upon both volume level and audio content. A new speaker battery may indeed last for 16 hours if playing jazz or classical music at low volume. At higher volumes the battery life is likely to be considerably less, and the more times you recharge, the less efficient the battery becomes. I guess we all know this from experience with our mobile phones. If you can pick one of these beauties up for £56 I don't think you'll go far wrong.

Brilliant sound for its size—perfect camper van companion!
Having bought EarFun wireless earbuds in the past, I already knew the brand delivered excellent quality, so I decided to invest in this UBOOM L portable speaker for my camper van. I needed something to boost the sound quality of my portable TV and to play music when relaxing, and it certainly does not disappoint. The sound quality is surprisingly rich and powerful for such a compact speaker. It has never let me down, and when it’s not in use, it's small enough to easily tuck away out of sight. I am incredibly happy with this purchase—it's an absolute bargain for the performance you get.

Excellent value
Bought after seeing Oluv’s recommendation and have not been disappointed. Firmware upgrade did fail initially but discovered a USB-C to USB-C cable worked. A failed firmware update does not brick the unit, but I recommend using a USB-C equipped PC, USB-C to USB-A cables would not work for me. As for sound remember any speaker needs some “burn-in”, some bass heavy signal to loosen up the speaker suspension. Also speaker position in the room makes a huge difference to bass response. If you have hard floors try sticking the speaker on the floor in the room corner to enhance bass. For me the clarity in these speakers is amazing for the price. Like many have said, very smooth and detailed. The bass appears a little lean with “indoor” mode, but I’d rather have the midrange clarity. If you want more bass I’d suggest an app based eq. After a couple of weeks with one unit I was convinced to get a second unit for stereo. Big improvement in sound with proper left right separation and better bass. Well worth it. Edit After a couple more weeks these speakers do bed in and improve. Bass is getting better too. Placed on a hard floor in the room corner there is ample bass response in “indoor mode”. No need for any EQ app. Also discovered you can stand them on end either side of your laptop for a very clear nearfield monitor like setup. Finally I am very impressed how a pair remember stereo mode. If you turn a stereo pair off then on again, it remembers the stereo settings and re-pairs. I had an expensive pair of mini rig speakers that always had trouble with stereo mode constantly dropping. These speakers are much more reliable.

Almost a great speaker but… (6 months on)
I bought this speaker as a replacement for a Jam Heavy Metal (very highly rated speaker from a few years ago with an original RRP of around £120). Predominantly it’s getting used in a commercial kitchen, so it does get pushed at over half volume in a noisy environment. First up, the sound quality is better than the Jam. It sounds fuller, instrument separation is fantastic and timbre is really good, in all honesty it’s a much better speaker than my old Jam. It goes loud enough, though there isn’t a massive amount of headroom in my use case. If you like ear bleeding volumes, perhaps this won’t be for you unless your environment is small. Connectivity is great, though in this day and age you’d really expect that. Anywhere in my one bedroom flat remains connected and I can walk around work with no drop outs. So, it connects well, it sounds great, why the dropped star? First up, the build quality. Already the material covering the speaker is starting to look “less new” with a couple of small frays. I’m not a clumsy kid, I’m a middle aged man who looks after his gear. Yes in this instance I’m using it less carefully than I might for home use but I worry how rough it will look after 6 months. Finally, the battery life. It’s disappointing. I know claims are for “up to” yada yada yada but in actual use I’m only barely seeing half what’s claimed. If I’d known it would be that bad, I’d have bought something else (it was bought for a specific use case and it’s not quite up to doing a double shift in the kitchen). I don’t regret buying it, as it sounds great, it’s just about the perfect size and it’s close to being able to do what I want. It’s just not quite there. So, after 6 months the physical condition hasn't got any worse. The battery life is still not amazing but it'll go between 8 and 10 hours depending on volume. Sound quality as it's worn in is just really, really good. Plenty of depth to the bass without it ever becoming boomy or false-sounding. Quite happy to return the star I dropped it now. It's great.

Incredible but....needs awkward firmware update to get the best out of it.
I've previously owned the Denon 250BT Envaya (all time favourite portable speaker), JBL Charge 4 (nice bass but not balance and bass cuts out at high volumes) and currently own Audio Pro BT5 (not very balanced, needs EQ to get the best out of it) Compared to those the UBoom L is closest to the Denon in style, size and performance but it has an even more balanced sound and better clarity over all my previous owned BT speakers. The sound is on the warm side, though not as warm as the Denon, it is a bit more balanced. It has a similar soundstage to the Denon, giving you a nice natural room filling sound. It is not a bassy as the Denon and cannot handle low sub bass as well but it does handle bass in a very natural sounding way, where the Denon was over bass heavy. For more bass I use the Outdoor mode and to me it sounds almost perfect. The only negative and possibly a "keep or return" issue for many is that the UBoom L does NOT come with the tuned firmware used in his original test/review/preview. It instead uses a standard Earfun firmware and it sounded very average as a result and I nearly returned it. Updating the firmware is overly difficult (I work in I.T. and still found it awkward). The firmware is not available on the Earfun site, you have also download a separate flashing tool also not on their site and also you have to use a USB-C data cable, not the usual USB-C charging cable that comes with speaker or most phones. After several failed attempts I eventually got the update to work using the USB-C cable that came with my son's Razer headset. Once updated it sounds SO MUCH better and now that it has been warmed it up a bit, playing music, it has gone from being meh to WOW. I expect it will get even better once it has been fully bedded in. Definitely a must buy based on this price and its performance but make sure you update the firmware or you will be disappointed.

Speaker was good untill drivers went tinny.
Has been a good speaker but I have 2 main problems. 1 has to be the charging port the rubber has tore exactly where you put your nails in to open this which makes it very difficult to open. 2, after a few months the drivers have now gone tinny. Every time there is bass it sounds like the drivers are made from aluminium foil. It's bearable but I'd love these two things changed/fixed. And if im being nit-picky when in water the drivers face down in the water and and go muffled. Would have loved for them to face up and out the water. If it wasn't for these this is a genuinely good sounding budget speaker.

Unbeatable value for money
Initially I'd been looking to buy one of the more well known brands but decided to do a bit of YouTube/Reddit/review research and came cross these and for the price I paid (I got them on a multibuy offer) you can't get better value for money. I did downgrade the firmware to 4.8 (which can be a bit fiddly and is not necessary, they ship with 5 which is a tad bass rich but still great) and I do leave it on outdoor mode, but the sound quality is miles better than my friends speakers who have gone for the more famous brands. Genuinely impressive sound. Couple of things to note, at this price I'd get two since they pair up for stereo mode really easily and it sounds perfect, but don't do this for watching videos; to be fair I was tempted to mark 4/5 as the latency for watching videos with 2 speakers in stereo mode is too high, but left it at 5/5 because for music, or watching video through a single speaker with the low latency mode, they are excellent. The customer service has also been great and each message responded to within a day and they've offered their help each time. Realistically I get about 12-13 hours battery life at medium volume which is good enough for me but overall really happy with the purchase

Not great
Latency when watching video is too high, even with the video mode enabled. Sound is ok but not great. Low on bass and general crispness of the sound. Volume controls directly control your devices audio, which i dont like because i cant control the sound volume as finely as id like. Ok build quality, ok price. Got this one because reviews where good. I do not agree and will not get a second unit as planned to try the stereo function.

Must buy
Great sound@great price!

Buy it. You'll be happy.
Excellent speaker and for the price, you won't be disappointed in the slightest. The equaliser takes a little playing around with, to get the best solution for your own ear preferences and the specific situation/room/ambience you are using the speaker in. I have had it for about 1 week. It seems to hold all frequencies of sound and clarity of music/vocals extremely well over any volume from low to max. I have a few other speakers and I feel this trumps the other ones for all-round quality of sound and is much more attractively priced. Good bang for your buck. I like it that much, that I am going to buy a second one so that I can pair them. It doesn't have a powerbank (no biggy), but it has a built in mic which is amazingly helpful for taking calls handsfree and the other person can hear you very clearly. Can't comment on durability yet as I haven't dropped it, or had it playing outside in the heat for any length of time. However, it looks and feels like it is solidly and professionally constructed. You can hold it in your hand easily, it's not too heavy. However, it could do with a wriststrap just for added convenience. I prefer it in all respects (price, quality of sound, loudness, features) over my comparable market bracket JBL Flip 2 and JBL Charge 6 speakers.

El audio es muy bueno, se escucha mejor que otras bocinas del mismo precio. Lo mejor es que tiene aun entrada 3.5, la configuración de interior y exterior de Oluv's es una maravilla.

Excellent speaker with good low end and clarity
This is an excellent Bluetooth speaker if you are looking for a Bose-type replacement at a great price. I had the original generation Bose SoundLink, but it became a paperweight due to the battery no longer holding charge (and not working off a cable either). This Earfun UBoom L has a similar sound profile at lower volumes, offers great Bluetooth connectivity, and has clear, believable sound listening in small spaces or at low or moderate volumes. I'm not a sound engineer or audio expert, but from my interest in stereo and guitar equipment, I became aware of something called the Fletcher-Munson Effect. Basically, the human ear is more sensitive to mid-range frequencies (roughly between 2kHz and 5kHz). This means that lower volumes, the sound you are perceive will seem to have less bass than if the same EQ were applied at a louder volume. As a result, manufacturers of small-format speakers figured out that you need to boost certain frequencies at low volumes and generally reshape the EQ for your ears to perceive what would be a "flat" setting at a louder volume. Bose was a pioneer in popularizing this concept, but it's widely used in all types of affordable Bluetooth speakers, and the UBoom L is a great example of that. It sounds great out of the box, but with a phone app, you can apply special indoor and outdoor EQ settings from a sound engineer named "Oluv". If you're like me and frequently use Bluetooth speakers to play background music at very low volumes (while working, studying, or just for general ambience), then you'll appreciate this. There was a whole "Beats vs. Bose" thing about 15 years ago where people became obsessed with having as much bass as possible. Similar to a Bose unit, the UBoom L has plenty of low end, but with the Oluv EQ, it retains clarity and does not overwhelm the other frequencies. I will say that there is plenty of low end in this speaker, and there are presets and custom EQ's you can play with if you prefer a bassier sound. The internal battery charges with a USB-C cable, and I appreciated that they included an AUX jack. Some of these speakers are great to use with other audio equipment and instruments that either do not have Bluetooth, or would suffer from latency. There are plenty of great budget and premium Bluetooth speaker options nowadays, but this is a great all-around product. UPDATE (08/20/25): Need to make a slight correction to my review above - the UBoom L has a significant latency (audio delay between input and sound playing through speaker) when using the AUX 3.5mm jack. Apparently, this is a common issue not just with the Earfun units, specifically, but with most Bluetooth speakers that use any type of digital processing or EQ to produce sound. The latency is significant - around 250 milliseconds, I believe - which is far too large to use it effectively to play sound from any instrument. However, since this is a very "niche" use of this otherwise excellent Bluetooth speaker, I am not downgrading my review score.
