Great little motor at the price.
I took a chance on this inexpensive 2 stroke for my 79 Gheenoe. I only paid $400 for the boat, so I couldn't see spending a ton on an outboard. Upon receiving it I was surprised that the gear oil was already filled. I switched out the spark plug with a Bosche and read the manual, which is sketchy at best. I broke it in in a 55 gal barrel with water above the cavitation plate as this is water cooled. I had trouble getting it started at first, until I checked the kill switch and found the plastic nut was loose. I carefully tightened it and it started right up. I ran it at idle for and hour. I did this every day for about four days. I the would Rev it half throttle and so on over a week until I had it running at full, first for 10 minutes and working up to an hour. Note here that the stickers for the fuel shut off, the choke, and the speed indicator are all back words, so 10 is idle and off is full. Must have got lost in the translation, but doesn't affect performance. I took it out on the lake today for the first time, and I couldn't be happier. On a 15.4 ft. Gheenoe with over 400 lbs of gear and people it pushed us right along. I would estimate 10 to 15mph, not too shabby for a cheap 3.5 hp. The motor preformed flawlessly. It starts on the first or second pull every time. I stopped and started it probably a dozen time on the lake. I would definitely recommend this outboard especially at the price.

Know that H does not mean high on the throttle!
I was extremely skeptical as an outboard such as this for the price was too good to be true. The engine arrive at the prescribed day and no damage was found from shipping. After mixing the oil for break in, the engine started up on about the 3rd crank. That was comforting! Here are the things that are negative. 1. The operators manual is pathetic and written by someone who did not know English. 2. I could not find any instructions for for the break in, which is important for engine life. 3. The throttle is completely backwards, "H" for high and "L" for low was reversed. When I started the engine it charged off at its highest RPM. 4. The choke is also impossible to determine, but the dial to the left is open and right closed. 5. No pads or braces to set the engine down on for storage. Overall it is a cute little engine for a small inflatable dinghy and is light weight to handle. I have not had it running yet on my boat yet for a good run. Time will tell, so stay tuned I will report in later on longevity and reliability. If you are looking for a cheap engine that's 2-Stroke and don't wish to pay a $1000.00 this might be a good option Update! 9/09/2025 โ- After a good test run the engine performs well. However it seems apparent that the horsepower rating of 3.5 of a Chinese motor isnโt the same as an American built motor. I had a 1994 3.5 Johnson that would move my boat much faster and even plane with one lighter person. The maximum speed attained with this engine was 4 MPH. Beware should you be caught in strong currents. This engine doesnโt have the oomph you might need!
