Perfect PeanutโFree Swap My Kid Actually Eats
What I Tested: SunButter Creamy Sunflower Seed Butter, 16 oz (Pack of 6) RealโWorld Results: Creamy, delicious alternative to peanut butter for a peanutโallergy household Not overly sweet โ easy win for picky eaters but still a healthy choice The 6โpack is a great value, noticeably cheaper per jar than local retail Works in everything: pad thai, sunbutterโandโjelly sandwiches for picnics, celery dip, lunchbox snacks Things to Watch For Heat during transport can affect the seal, so I always check lids on arrival Bottom Line: If you need a reliable peanutโfree spread that fits into lots of kidโfriendly meals, this is an easy pantry staple.

Ordinary Lifestyle For The Peanut-Allergic
My kids with multiple food allergies (including peanuts) already have enough on their plate without having to explain why they're eating weird looking stuff. So I am thrilled to be able to recommend Sunbutter as a peanut butter substitute. My kids don't have to do without that childhood lunch staple, the peanut-butter sandwich. Sunbutter doesn't taste like peanut butter; it tastes like sunflower seeds. However, this is not an unpleasant taste, just different. It has the exact same texture and mouth-feel as peanut butter, though, so it can be used as a straight substitute for peanut butter in all kinds of recipes. We've used it as a substitute to make peanut-free peanut sauce, peanut butter cookies, and peanut butter fudge. It functions exactly as peanut butter does, and as long as the sunflower-seed taste goes well in the recipe, it does just fine. I should warn you, though, there are some contexts where the flavor just doesn't work with the recipe. On the other hand you may find that some people will prefer the flavor. Our neighbors don't have a single peanut-allergic kid, but they bought some Sunbutter anyway because their kids had it over at our peanut-free house and loved it. Sunbutter does have a couple of quirks. First, if you expose it to alkali, it turns green. So if you use it in a recipe that is heavy on the baking soda, you may get an unexpected result. And of course since detergent is alkali, if you leave any on the knife and put it in the dishwasher, that which doesn't wash off will be a harmless but very ugly fecal shade of green. Rinse thoroughly before putting Sunbutter-covered utensils in the dishwasher. Second, it has more of a tendency than peanut butter to separate into oil and solids. I used to buy it in the large tubs but when we'd open one up there was an inch-thick layer of sunflower oil on the top. We tried to mix it in but then we found that the stuff at the bottom was so thick and dry that it couldn't be spreaded at all. We developed two workarounds for this: one, upon opening a new container, we'd dump it in the mixer and mix it all up. Two, buy smaller jars. Overall, three cheers for Sunbutter!

Incredible ๐๐ฅฐ
This is my new obsession ๐ฅฐ this sunflower butter, is the best thing Iโve ever ate! It has a whipped like texture, and is top quality. I didnโt even have to stir it๐ค just open, and spread it on a cracker, or bread. Actually , Iโll even eat a spoonful . This will forever be repurchased. The best thing is , itโs a non gmo, gluten free, kosher certified, and is healthier than rather peanut butter ๐๐๐

Great substitute for nut butters without the risk of allergic reactions.
This stuff actually tastes GOOD. Its a great no-allergy-risk source of protein and really does taste like peanut butter. Kids use it just lie peanut butter and use it to make their pbj sandwiched or eat it on crackers. I, as a 73 year-old, also like it!

Same great product for a much better price!!
When I was buying the "regular" size jars of Trader Joe's sunbutter I found myself rationing it due to the cost. Now that I have 2 young children and one with peanut and tree nut allergies I decided to buy SunButter in bulk. I was afraid that I would not get through the immense amount of product in a timely fashion but that has NOT been a problem! I am already on my second order after using the first 10 pounds in only 4 months! Now that I have a larger and better priced supply I can use it to make my own "cereal bars" and "power bars" that, thanks to SunButter, taste great. I keep the large bucket in the back of the fridge and a 16 oz refillable container within reach on the fridge door, although I do not have any trouble keeping the small container out of the fridge for a few days at a time so that it is even easier to spread. I was concerned about having to mix up such a large container of SunButter but this 5 pound size does not seem to have the oil separation that the smaller containers have. Also, my four year old, a recent member of the picky eater club, loves this product and has updated the "peanut butter jelly time" song to "sunbutter jelly time" ...even though he does not eat jelly :)

Spreads easily!
Great alternative to nut butters. The consistency is creamy like a smooth peanut butter, making it spread easily. Itโs not oily. Donโt have to refrigerate. Works great for baking too!

These are lower in oxalates (poisons) than peanut butter
These are a lower oxalate option for those of us who can no longer eat nut butters, & they taste good.
