BBC History Magazine

The issue I purchased was the October issue with Anne Boleyn on the cover. I mainly wanted to read the article about her, and the overall issue itself was so interesting and informative--I really enjoyed it. There was even an article on ancient Rome that was a great read. I don't know that I would subscribe, but I can say this is a very informative magazine, and also entertaining, which you do want in magazines.

I wait every month for my new Kindle edition of BBC history. I love it love it. Easy to read and navigate. So much information I can hardly remember at all! I have a history BA But I realize that I really don’t know much. This magazine makes me go and further investigate different subjects. I am going to order the Kindle version for my daughter.

I'm a history buff and I absolutely love this magazine. I learn something new from every issue. They focus on English/ British history of course, but they also include articles about history in other countries. The articles are written by historians, most of whom teach at universities, but they're easy to read and understand. I would definitely recommend this magazine to anyone interested in reading about history.

I still very much like BBC History which always has interesting arcticelse and is much cheaper than a new Danish history Magazine But I do miss the previous reviews of historical fiction by Rennison, Alone with a few similar examples, I find historical fiction to be a covenient Way to get acquainted with various historical events an epoques. The BBC history seems to have replaced these features with other approaches to fiction. Admitted, it May not have been much of a proper review, but still an inspiring introduktion👍

Within the BBC History Magazine I always find several articles to entice me to have a long read. It's visually pleasing too, because it has many artworks, photographs and illustrations throughout. Along with interesting articles, there are short pieces about new book releases, both non-fiction and fiction, and upcoming events. I'm so glad I subscribed.

I look forward to each installation of this magazine. It is chock full of all sorts of interesting bits of history. I find myself researching topics and looking things up I had not known. I have ordered several of the books from the reviews. I am not a big magazine fan, but I love this one!

I simply enjoy how history puts much of current affairs in context. Although much of BBC History Magazine is UK-based, they do foray into other parts of the world -- a trend that seems to be on the rise and I hope it continues. This magazine is not the history you learn in school or university. The biggest plus about this magazine is that it brings history to life. Everything from wars to famines and medicine through the ages; customs, rituals and what have you spring to life. Bottom line: if my history teachers over the years and taught me using the writing style of the BBC history magazine, I would have majored in history at university instead of spending the rest of my life catching up.

I received this magazine as a Christmas present from my wife. I enjoy history and love anecdotal literature. I found the BBC History Magazine to be okay but not great. It took a little to figure out how to properly read it on a Kindle, as it is laid out starting with the editorial page, moves to the comment page and then progresses along through the various sections of the magazine. If you want to get into the meat of the magazine and know exactly what is being discussed in the issue, you need to go from the table of contents and to navigate from there. While the December 2012 issue dealt with a number of interesting topics, I found that some of the articles weren't handled properly or as thoroughly as I would have liked. In particular, I disliked the article comparing `The Hobbit' and Anglo-Saxon England. While much of the world of `Middle Earth' appears to be like `Dark Ages' England, I would have rather read an article dealing specifically with every day life and the role of the citizenry in Anglo-Saxon England, rather than skimming through an article that has tied the topic to an upcoming popular film in hopes of garnering interest. My other complaint is the inclusion of image descriptions throughout the magazine. If you don't intend to include the images in the Kindle version, get rid of the image descriptions. These are disruptive and annoying. I intend to continue reading the magazine to see if it improves but unless some of the formatting issues are resolved I don't think I will keep this magazine.

Interesting, Informative and comprehensive in detail and subject matter.

I was disappointed as it lacked content in fact the copy I purchased to read on a long bus journey, had nothing worth reading.

Viewed this magazine on Kindle Fire Hd early this year, was difficult to navigate on tablet , how ever have since sold my Kindle Fire and purchased Kindle Paperwhite 3g this product now appears on the device in a more readable state. Good content easy to read on Paperwhite, pictures are displayed in black/white, how ever they appear clear on the screen. Will be purchasing this months copy ( June )

There are lots of little articles with sophisticated and nuanced perspectives that have seriously broadened my view of history. The focus is on British history but there's great coverage of the rest of the world too.

On the plus side, easy to navigate to different sections, articles, on my kindle, also text easily readable on my Wi-fi Kindle Keyboard - on the negative side pictures somewhat disappointing as only availlable in black and white - I was disappointed that I couldn't also download it to my pc as the pictures might have appeared in colour as they do when I have cookery books both on my kndle and on kindle for pc - that said having the text on kindle makes it an easily portable read - however a kindle subscription (probably incurrs VAT) is noticeably more expensive than a subscription for the printed version (which probably doesn't incur VAT). I am currently undecided whether I will take out an annual subscription for any version of this magazine despite thinking some of April 2013 edition was 'interesting'.
