D - Salt & Caramel - 10.4 oz - Chocolate Coated Gourmet Licorice - Authentic Scandinavian Candy Produced in Denmark

We got these in Strasburg, and since we "touristing", I decided to try them. I'm so glad I did! Obviously, we went through them, and flying to Germany to get more was not practical, so I was really happy to see that I could get them from Amazon! If you're used to US "licorice"...none of it is actually licorice root. It's all fennel or something else. I still don't like it. But this is made of actual licorice root, and it's a different taste. These are also not gummy or mushy like a lot of US stuff. They have a satisfying crunch when you bite into them, and the coatings go well with the licorice.

I first encountered these in a Scandinavian shop in Poulsbo, Washington. I was delighted to find that they're available on Amazon. For those who say "I don't like licorice," I'd suggest giving these a try. The licorice is quite different from typical American or Australian black licorice. It's much less sharp, and the flavor is milder (but strong enough to tickle the palate of licorice lovers). Overall I'd call it mildly, rather than cloyingly, sweet. The salt-caramel flavor coupled with the chocolate in the coating offsets the licorice flavor perfectly.

Lakrids are dreamy. A superior confection. The black licorice is delicious and has a perfect texture chewy with a bit of bite. (They call it “sweet” licorice because in many parts of Europe, as in Denmark, licorice can typically be salted. I find salted licorice revolting. The way licorice typically comes in Italy on the other hand is laced with mint.) Lakrids are coated in a smooth dreamy delicious chocolate wrapped in a thin delicate coating; not as thick or indelicate as that on M&Ms but its own “Lakrid” candy coating. It’s this candy coating which contains the varied flavors such as sour apple, strawberry, pink, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, etc. - . I wish they weren’t so delicious because I wouldn’t want them as often. The price is high of course they’re imported…truly a delicacy from Denmark. The company, founded in 2007 by Johan Bülow, specializes in creating luxury, gourmet licorice and chocolate (check their website ). Many flavors strawberry white chocolate and licorice, lemon, peach, mango, chocolate toffee crunch, dark and light milk, chocolate, and all kinds of combos… and including seasonal flavors. Pictured is the small jar of Passionfruit. The aroma alone when lift the paper seal is dreamy.

First tried this in Denmark. Most Americans think of black licorice being sweet but the European black licorice is often more salty than sweet. If you think you don't like black licorice try this one. It's a perfect combination of salt and caramel with a unique flavor. It also comes in a number of fruity flavors like strawberry, peach or lime. The store in Copenhagen is fun to visit and you can even visit the factory just outside town.

Yummmm!! I’d get them all the time if they were less expensive!

Un produit qu'on m'avait offert lors d'un voyage au Danemark. On ne les trouve pas en France, heureusement qu'Amazon est là !!! Un régal de gourmandise à laquelle il est difficile de résister. De plus arrivées plus tôt que prévu ... un vrai plaisir en tous points !

Couldn't stop eating it

Bought these as part of a homemade hamper for a birthday present- the recipient, my husband, said they were absolutely delicious. He's ordered himself 2 more Tubs, trying out different flavours.
