This item has been the best product and a life safer for family that suffers from cold sores. If placed at the first tingle of a cold sore coming on, it lessens the severity and length of time the cold sore is around. Highly recommended and well worth the price.

Short of a prescription medication, nothing I’ve found compares to the effectiveness of Abreva. I’ve been getting cold sores on my lips since childhood. Fortunately, they’re relatively infrequent—usually only three to five times per year—but before I discovered this product, I’d just let them run their course. That was miserable. What would start as a tiny, barely noticeable itchy bump would often turn into a large, painful, bright red sore on my lip. Not only was it uncomfortable, but it also made me self-conscious about my appearance. Years ago, I picked up a tube of Abreva at my local drugstore, and I’ve kept it on hand ever since. It significantly reduces the symptoms and, more importantly, helps the cold sore clear up much faster. These days I always have multiple tubes—one in my medicine cabinet at home and another in my travel toiletry bag. I never want to be caught without it. The key, at least in my experience, is to start using it immediately. I can usually tell a cold sore is coming when I feel a small hard bump on the edge of my lip accompanied by a slight itch. The moment I notice it, I start applying Abreva and keep the tube close by so I can reapply after eating, drinking, or anything else that might remove it. When I catch it early and stay consistent with the applications, the cold sore never becomes the large, angry, painful sore it would otherwise become. It stays small, causes minimal discomfort, and is usually gone within a few days. There’s simply no reason to let a cold sore get out of control. At the first sign of one, get ahead of it with Abreva. For me, it has made a huge difference.

Keep in mind, this is strictly for pain relief and also to relieve the dryness and stiffness aspect of cold sores. Basically when your lip or area around it is feeling super stiff and chapped, it will make the skin supple again. It'll also relieve any tingles or burning. But the actual Abreva cold sore treatment (Docosanol Cream) is what works to actually treat/get rid of the sores themselves. So you need both. I usually place a thin layer of this stuff first, followed by the Abreva cream, allow it to dry (about 30 to 45 minutes) then add a couple cold sore patches to the treated areas to further protect while it heals. I also do red light treatments once in the mornings and once in the evenings, 5 minutes at a time each time. If you wanted to, you could also use just this and then the cold sore patches too. It depends on how effective it is for you. The patches themselves have healing formula in them too. So if you don't like the cream, that is an option. I've found that using the cream plus the patches worked better for me, tho. Ultimately you have to find what works for you. But this tube is specifically for pain relief only, it will not actually treat the sores, so you will need a second form of medicine, whether prescribed or over the counter, to treat the problem itself. So it works well for what it was meant for. Hopefully after this episode, won't need it again for a long time. This was my first episode after nearly 2yrs of not having any. Stellar product. Nothing comes even close. Suppress the outbreak on day 1, dry it out in next 2 days and completely get rid of it in a week
