One of New York Times ' Twelve Books for Feminist Boys and Girls! This is the story of a woman who dared to dive, defy, discover, and inspire. This is the story of Shark Lady. One of the best science picture books for children, Shark Lady is a must for both teachers and parents alike! An desertcart Best Book of the Month Named a Best Children's Book of 2017 by Parents magazine Eugenie Clark fell in love with sharks from the first moment she saw them at the aquarium. She couldn't imagine anything more exciting than studying these graceful creatures. But Eugenie quickly discovered that many people believed sharks to be ugly and scaryโand they didn't think women should be scientists. Determined to prove them wrong, Eugenie devoted her life to learning about sharks. After earning several college degrees and making countless discoveries, Eugenie wrote herself into the history of science, earning the nickname "Shark Lady." Through her accomplishments, she taught the world that sharks were to be admired rather than feared and that women can do anything they set their minds to. An inspiring story by critically acclaimed zoologist Jess Keating about finding the strength to discover truths that others aren't daring enough to see. Includes a timeline of Eugenie's life and many fin-tastic shark facts! The perfect choice for parents looking for: Books about sharks Inspiring nonfiction narrative books Role model books for girls and boys Kids STEM books Review: Best Shark Book Read - Okay, I may have felt a tiny bit silly picking up a childrenโs book, but Iโm SO glad I did. ๐ฅน๐ฆ Shark Lady was such a sweet, inspiring little read about Eugenie Clark and her lifelong love of sharks. I loved learning how her fascination with sharks started when she was young and eventually turned into an incredible career studying them. There was something so wholesome about reading about a girl who followed her curiosity, challenged what people thought they knew about sharks, and refused to let anyone tell her what she couldnโt do. It was quick, beautifully illustrated, educational, and honestly perfect for Shark Week. ๐ฆ๐ Apparently my Shark Week era includes childrenโs books now, and you know what? Iโm embracing it. ๐๐ Cute, informative, and proof that you are never too old to learn something newโor read whatever makes you happy. ๐๐ฆ Shark Week rating: ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ Review: Beautiful book, great science, inspiring story, awesome representation - Eugenie Clark's story is fascinating and inspirational, and the illustrations in this book are gorgeous. There's even a little bit of fun shark science to learn in this book too. It's also really nice to have a book about a scientist who's half Asian and female - if there's another children's book out there with that type of representation, I've yet to find it. One of the little girls we gave this to was super excited to see someone like her in a kids book!

Beautiful and Informative
This is a beautiful book. It can be hard to find such a high quality non-fiction picture book thatโs so engaging. Our children have this book, and weโve purchased it several times for gifts.

Great for Facts
All of this we were able to look up and verify and there was some amazing information that we were able to learn and then rabbit hole into that we were not already aware of and is not commonly spoken about or known.

Good book about Eugenie Clark
We were excited for a book about sharks and a female scientist studying them! Decent story, but the writing isnโt best, and it can be long-winded at times.

Such an interesting book
My favorite part was reading about Eugenie's ride from a whale shark. I highly recommend this book so that people can learn how interesting sharks are.

Recommended, easy to read, beautiful to look at.
Well written and simple enough for the younger reader. Beautiful artwork makes it a feast for the eyes. A good book to counter the scare tactics that sensationalism over sharks can instill in young children. Makes sharks something to show respect to, rather than to blindly fear. Recommended for junior naturalists. :)

Brilliant. Treat yourself and your children to a great story about a great life and lady.
This is a wonderful book and one which my 5 years thoroughly enjoyed. Even as a keen diver, i was unaware of Eugenie and her life dedicated to sharks. Thankfully this book not only educated me and my 5 years olds about her life and talents. We have a new idol to read about every night.
