Nice Film Collection
For those who needed a fix from the end of the "Harry Potter" series, this 3-film collection of Fantastical Beasts satisfies that craving and provides intellectual backstory to the Harry Potter series. The films are all well-done production-wise. They each have a fair amount of extras beyond the films themselves.I found the first film to be charming and enchanting: just the right mix between the fantastical and character (and relationship) development. The second film was so complex and events, locations, and characters moved so fast that I found myself rewinded to try to get the entire story, but still did not get it fully in the end. The third film has a surprise twist when Johnny Depp no longer plays the antagonist (Grindelwald), but given all of the twists and turns in this series, it was difficult to discern at first that there was simply another actor playing the part, as opposed, for example, to using polyjuice to alter physical appearances. However, the third film ended up being a satisfying addition to the franchise, as it closed a few loose ends.Sadly, this series followed the Harry Potter series with the same underlying theme of "Good vs. Evil" and both ended with battle clashes to determine which would "win" in the end. I was hoping that this series of three films would take a different route, especially since the first film was so charming. So, in both series, the films get progressively darker, not just in storyline, but also in technical film production as well, as they muted colors for grays, greens, and dark shadows. The "Fantastical Beasts" genre could have instead opened up an entire new storyline of technicolor wonders. Alas, it did not.
