I plan to use this for a recovering addict. Is the lock strong enough to prevent prying?

No, it is a plastic unit. If someone wanted in the unit they could smash easily.

When the alarm goes off for that time of medicine, how does it work? Does the tray slot for that day and time pop open or does it just unlock?

There is a single sliding door on the top of the unit. At the appropriate time, the carousel rotates so that the next set of pills is under the sliding door and the alarm rings. You then slide the door open and tip the unit over to drop the pills in your hand. Turning the unit over stops the alarm.

How do I turn the alarm back on? There is a line through the symbol, to the right of the time….?
