Overall GREAT Dehumidifier.. for several reasons
Competitively priced, acceptable sound (not too loud as some reviews mentioned, but my unit is 4500 sq foot size model for large home and basement applications, and it’s in our basement) Works SUPER EFFICIENTLY, we empty it 2 times every day and our basement is at a walkout level meaning 1 of 4 cement walls is not underground. With all the rain we’ve had in MI this year it was reported that we had 5” of rain during the month of June alone which is much higher than MI normal June rainfall calculations. However, on Saturday July 24 there was a torrential rain storm with 4 tornadoes to surrounding towns between 10 and 40 miles surrounding my town and in the 25 years I’ve lived in my home which has heavily wooded and hilly topography in our subdivision where the home lots average 1/2 acre, we had so much rain it was unbelievable. It was reported to be 4” of rain in just under 45 minutes of time. My back lot which is hilly and wooded had a 3 foot-wide swale of water rushing across my property, even going uphill at times to finally be redirected and emptied into a huge culvert running under the side street on my property’s western border. I have a corner lot and that rushing water was truly shocking to observe! My dehumidifier has been operating just AWESOME keeping up with all our surrounding soggy yard from on top of our grass, but also underground as well. Our soil also contains a lot of clay, making run-off and soil reabsorption even more of a challenge this year. My unit arrived within the estimated delivery expectations and even though the box had an area on one corner where the box was smashed in a bit, the dehumidifier was extremely well packaged so thankfully there was no damage to our unit. My husband assembled the parts and wheels with ease and he reported that it was easy to set up for your individual personalized setting choices as well. This dehumidifier comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty, but if you register your unit online at hOmeLabs.com website you qualify for an additional 6 months of Warranty coverage through the hOmeLabs manufacturer. Additionally, you have 30 days after purchase to decide if you would like to purchase any additional third-party warranty coverage as well. What has me on the fence regarding buying additional product coverage is two-fold. First, one of the third-party insurers starts their 2-years Warranty beginning on the date of the product purchase, so hence; their coverage runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty which in my opinion is stupid AND in the other third-party insurer coverage it is not “clearly stated,” nor can anyone answer my question about who pays the “return shipping” fees if this product has to be sent out for repairs and if I’m recalling correctly I seem to remember that this dehumidifier weighs about 30 to 40 pounds. So if it’s the homeowner who has to pay return shipping fees to get it to someplace to be repaired those return costs will be exorbitant, so probably not worth buying additional extended warranty coverage. But it’s available to buy if the customer chooses too. Overall I’m extremely impressed and pleased at the functioning of this dehumidifier, I’m just hoping it’s going to keep operating this efficiently for several years. We take care of our products so if you do the required maintenance and keep the filters washed and cleaned as directed it should last for many seasons. In Michigan I only have to run it during the months when my furnace isn’t in use since the months that my furnace runs totally keeps any potential dampness from Spring rains or Winter snowfall dampness from developing in my basement. I do highly recommend this product as we’ve had it in use around 3 weeks to date and not a speck of wetness, or any damp smells or musty odors at all can be identified at all…. And I have a nose like a hawk when it comes to noticing anything like that in my lower level PERIOD. So far, so good! Great purchase all around!!! It’s built for large 4500 sq foot areas but obviously it also is working totally and equally efficient inside my basement cedar closet too, so perfect for small spaces in my very large sq foot overall basement space!!!

Great Unit with Superb Customer Support
My old dehumidifier "died" and I needed a new one for my 1500 sq. ft. basement. I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit. It checked off all the boxes of quiet, efficient and probable long term reliability. As per the instructions, when the unit arrived it suggested that you leave the unit sitting upright for 24 hours before starting. That done, I used a short length of garden hose to run the condensate to drain. The unit was able to drop the humidity 12% in a 24 hour period in my 1500 sq. ft. basement. Its' operation is quiet, particularly so for a 50 pint dehumidifier running on turbo mode (fan is going faster). Even quieter turning off turbo mode. Then about 2 days later, after first starting it running, I noticed the unit had shut itself off for no reason. Thing is the bucket had filled and the unit, as it should with a full bucket, shut itself off. My problem with that was, I was running the condensate to drain using a garden hose to do so AND I had observed condensate water trickling out of the hose going to drain. So, some condensate was going to drain and some was going to the bucket. Not acceptable and you may be wondering why I gave this product 5 stars and not 0 or 1. Please read on. I immediately contacted (email) customer service and in a very timely manner, they responded. This was about 10 or 12 days ago. Basically they wanted to be sure the unit was setup correctly... level, no kinks in the drain hose, drain hose is running "down hill", basic stuff. So just to be sure, I checked the setup again and everything was as it should be. They also suggested that I very slightly tilt the unit back a bit which I did. That (the tilt) seemed to slow down some of the condensate going to the bucket but didn't stop it. At their request I did send some photos of the setup and, after seeing them, they agreed everything was setup correctly. Now, here's why I didn't take off any stars. Customer Service is superb and exemplary. They sent me a new unit, with no charge of any kind to replace the one I have. The new unit works great with no issues. So, I didn't take off any stars because: 1/ every manufacturer on the planet makes a "lemon" every now and then; 2/ HomeLabs stood behind their product and sent me a new one and did so without hassle and the problem was solved in a very timely manner. Cudos to Homelabs (particularly Jay) for great customer service. Bottom line, I highly recommend this unit based on how well it does its' job and the great, hassle free, customer service.

So good I'm buying a second one
I got this dehumidifier because we live in SW Florida and have recently had a problem with mold in our house. It's for 4500 square ft and would likely work fine for our 2 story house. We have to empty the tank twice/day so I am buying a second one to put upstairs. It is quiet, works efficiently and I am pleased with the cost. My aim is to keep the humidity below 50% and we are not quite there with the 1 dehumidifier. Update 8/12. We have 2 of these going now, one upstairs & one downstairs. It's a large 4 bedroom house. We had developed a problem with mold, living in SW Florida, even though we keep our AC set on 72 during the day and 68 at night-even though we have new AC units upstairs & downstairs, which should be able to maintain a humidity below 50%, which mold experts advise to discourage mold growth. Both of these dehumidifiers are set on continuous and they are running 24/7. We have found that they each have to be emptied TWICE daily. I'm guessing the tank holds between 1-2 gallons, have not measured it. It really does not matter. If the tank fills up, the unit turns itself off and the button that says FULL lights up. So it is foolproof, you just have to pay attention. And now having used them in this way, I find that my humidity meter is staying below 50%. I'm taking the time to write this not only because it's a good product and it deserves my positive comments. I am writing this because occult mold is a serious health threat. I'm a retired ICU nurse and feel a bit stupid that my own health was deteriorating; I was treated for chronic sinusitis & "allergies" for decades by board certified physicians. None of them had a clue, they just kept writing prescriptions. I lost hours of sleep each night because I or nasal stuffiness; I woke up most mornings with a headache. Some out there may identify with this. I had to pay out of pocket to see an integrative medicine MD, who looked at one lab result: my CRP, and asked point blank "Why is your CRP so high? Do you have a problem with mold in your house?" Well, duh, yes we did. He ordered a mycotoxin test from Great Plains Lab which showed I was shedding 2 mycotoxins in my urine which are both carcinogens and 1 is nephrotoxic. TMI? Sorry, this may save some else's life so I need to share it. I have now read 2 books on mold. We are undergoing mold remediation (not inexpensive) and part of that is keeping the humidity down. So if you even remotely think any of this is familiar to your own state of health, start checking the humidity in your house. If it's over 50% try one of these dehumidifiers. Instead of just buying one prescription antihistamine or nose spray or antibiotic after another to alleviate your head congestion and nasal symptoms-find an MD who will look below the surface and order the appropriate testing. Your very life could depend on it; and you will find your symptoms hugely improved if mold in your house is in any way involved involved. There are products available (BioBalance or Benefect) to begin eliminating any existing mold to restore you and your home to health. And this dehumidifier is part of the solution going forward!!!

This was a little surprising as I thought something mechanical should be protected better than that
The first unit that came to my home was not in an shipping box, but had been sent out in the manufacturer's box alone. This was a little surprising as I thought something mechanical should be protected better than that. When I opened the box, I noticed that one of the wheels was not attached to the bottom at all. Also, the float that is located in the collector bucket, to signal when the bucket is full, was detached on one side (broken). I called the customer service number provided, and without hesitation, they sent me a new dehumidifier. (This time it was in an outer shipping box). (They didn't want me to ship the other unit back...they said just keep it or dispose of it). This unit has been working perfectly for about a month now. It takes a lot of moisture out of the air quickly and thoroughly and is pretty quiet. I am happy with it. UPDATE: June 2018. I am happy with this product with one big issue: it frosts up A LOT! I have owned 3 other dehumidifiers (different brands) and I’ve never had this occur. I have to keep an eye on it so it doesn’t try to operate while frozen which would kill it I’m sure. It’s not in a cold location so not sure why this is happening. The only thing I can see is that the filter, which looks well made, doesn’t allow enough air in to circulate in the back of the unit. Not sure but if someone can shed some light on this and how to alleviate, would be great. UPDATE 3-2019 I think I figured out how to mitigate the freezing up issue...I had controls set to “continual” and, apparently, this was causing the problem. Turned off cont and no freezing since. Unit cycles on and off rather frequently, but so far this hasn’t bothered me too much. We’ll see how things go when the weather gets hot and humid. So far, this seems to be working. 👍

Works Great!
*Five Years Later Edit* It works fantastically still nearly 5 years later. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. *Original Review* First id like to point out a few things wrong about other reviews. The radiator/condenser fin damage seen in one of my photo's is a perfectly normal occurrence during assembly. If it bothers you or is so bad it affects the machine, or even if you do it yourself by accident, there is a simple fix. Get a condenser comb. I know they are available at Lowe's and Autozone, but they are also available on Amazon and a few other stores near you most likely. Check home improvement stores or auto parts stores for it. The comb's are easy to use and figure out how to use. Id also like to point out that a running condenser is not silent. On any appliance. If you run this device (if it isnt defective) next to a refridgerator, the fridge condenser will be louder. My mini-fridge is about the same volume when its condenser runs. If you can hear it from several rooms away, you have a defective unit probably, and an exchange is what you need. h0meLabs has excellent customer service. I left it out of the box, upright and unplugged for 24 Hours as the box says (the oils in the condenser may have shifted during transport, or may have even been laid on its side, which is why it must be upright for so long). I put a drain hose (Lowe's sells 6 ft female/female leader hoses for $8). If you are using continuous, unless you want to constantly have to lug a bucket to a bathtub or outside or whatever, its going to be heavy when full, hence the drain hose. I cut the 6 ft hose down to about 1 foot give or take an inch. The hose leads into a "Little Giant 554425 VCMA-20ULS Condensate Removal 1/30 HP Pump with Safety Switch", which is connected to a Vinyl tube that leads into my bathroom. The pump is like $50 and a wise investment. Its optional, but you can wire the secondary safety switch to a water alarm (ive seen them in the sink/shower aisle at walmart) which will sound if the pump safety feature kicks in, warning you to remove the hose so that it goes into the bucket, or else you will have a wet floor. I also have it more than 8 inches from a wall on all sides, even though it only requires 8. Im guessing because the humidity reading might be off if it is in a corner. Alot of people are saying the house thing is flimsy, but it really isnt as long as you arent a brute with it. Other people have said that it doesnt drain out the hose and that it keeps filling the bucket. Well, I used a level to make sure my floor was flat. If you have it on carpet, but a piece of plywood or something flat and sturdy (not cardboard) and make sure its as level as possible. If it isn't level, the float that makes it go into the hose will not function correctly and you will have a full bucket eventually. Below is my actual review based on usage. I will update it at certain milestones to tell about whether or not it is still chugging along as efficient as it was out of the box. First Hour: The first hour i continuously checked the bucket (turning it off first) in order to see if it was definitely going into the hose, and i remove the hose to see if it was wet (it was), so it was definitely collecting moisture. In the first hour alone it brought my house down from 86, to about 45-50. First Day: I already know it is better than my old DH (Hisense brand) because the old one was lying on the display. I was about to unplug the old one to plug in the new one and the humidity was allegedly 32. When i plugged the new one in, it went from 50 all the way to near 90 really darn quick. Then it slowly decreased down to 33, which took about 3 hours. First Week: I have definitely noticed a difference between my 2 dehumidifiers and this one is definitely better than my old one. Using the continuous function and a drain hose into a condensate pump, this machine has been running nonstop since I first plugged it in, and the bucket is as dry as it was when I first opened the box. To all those that are saying this function doesnt work and its not going into the hose, double check to make sure that the dehumidifier is as level as possible, and the drain hose is going horizontal and at a downward angle. If there is any "Up" angle in the hose, the water wont drain properly. It uses gravity, so the only directions it can go is down or horizontal.

BEAST
I dont normally write reviews, but this particular purchase I waited almost a year to really test how well this thing works.... I'm here to say that it has impressed me way more than I thought! I actually have a bigger dehumidifier in the basement that has a pump and was convienant because I could place it anywhere and let it pump off into the drain etc... no emptying buckets! But somehow I wasnt satisfied with the fact that it would never get below 52% humidity or so and for the size of the unit I simply expected more. So I started searching for a second dehumidifier that would assist the one with the pump as my basement is large and I thought maybe the one just isnt enough! Enter the Home dehumidifier I'm rating now! I plugged it in as a supplemental source and figured between the two I wouldnt have to empty the bucket on the home dehumidifier but maybe once a week or so.... WRONG!!! This thing is a beast! It pulls so much water out of the air that I empty the bucket once in the morning and once in the evening! The bigger one has an automatic shutoff, so it doesnt turn on anymore at all and shows 34% on the display... the Home dehumidifier does all the work and it's a room away in the basement! Unbelievable!! It isnt overly fancy or quiet or full of options or any of the other stuff people seem to want to pick around at, but what it does and is... is an absolute monster at pulling the humidity out of the air, so if your looking for fancy and quiet then look elswhere... if you want a machine that does what it's meant to do, this is the junkyard dog of humidity control in your house... havent had one instance since running it that I walk into my basement and smell even a tiny hint of the typical basement smell, BUY THIS MACHINE... if your looking for real results! Hope this helps.

AVOID this product. They fail quickly - we have had FOUR (three failed within the 1-year warranty)
There are lots of positive reviews, and that is why we bought this kind in the first place, but we have had FOUR of these identical units (4500 Sq. Ft Energy Star Dehumidifier) fail fairly rapidly. That's a lot of data points. There is nothing unusual about the space we have the dehumidifier in - it is a finished basement, climate controlled. We have a dehumidifier that we run during the shoulder seasons to be sure we don't get moisture build-up when the heat/AC doesn't run very much. Not a stressful environment by any measure. - at most it is four months a year. These units start out working really well, but they die WAY TOO EARLY. The first one (purchased 8/2020) lasted about two years and then froze up and nothing we could do would restore it (we did all the troubleshooting exercises online). So we replaced it with the same kind (6/2022) because it seemed to work well until it didn't, and we figured two years was a fluke. All those positive reviews can't be wrong. They are supposed to last longer, and maybe ours was just a dud. But no... The 2022 replacement lasted less than a year (it froze up by 4/2023), and since we were still within warranty, I contacted customer service. They were very helpful and walked me through the usual troubleshooting and eventually sent me a replacement. Kudos for good customer service. Alas, by 7/2023 the new unit was frozen up. I contacted customer service, we did the troubleshooting dance, and they sent another replacement. Kudos to them again, but I was starting to feel a bit foolish doing the same thing again and expecting a different outcome. Today, 10/2023, our fourth unit is demonstrably NOT working. This one didn't freeze up; it simply isn't removing any moisture - the fins are not cool, there is no water extracted, and it runs continuously. Another fail. Well familiar with the troubleshooting regimen, we've done all that again, with no success. We're not going to call customer service again to lobby for ANOTHER replacement. I don't want to send one more of these beasts to the landfill. We are moving on, and I am sending out a warning. I told customer service twice that there is a major issue in their manufacturing/quality assurance processes if these units lose their freon within months... I don't know if they do anything with that info. So I'm sharing it with you. These are too expensive to be so disposable. Save your money and get a different brand.

LOVE IT !
LOVE IT ! A while back I purchased Enkore Stone Coasters For Drinks in Holder - Protect Furniture From Excess Cold Condensation & Scratch - Absorbent Sandstone inside Good Grips Detachable Cover Tray, Better Than Brittle Cork Backing but they had a terrible time soaking up the condensation on my cold ceramic cups. NO WONDER. Within a half-hour of plugging in the Home Dehumidifier it became obvious that my apartment was teeming with humidity. It's just AMAZING how much water this unit has pulled out of the air in the past 18 hours. Haven't even had it for a complete day yet and I'm already fully satisfied. At this point, it's simply a question of durability: how long will this unit work before breaking down. Other than that, what can I say? It's got nice clean lines. The controls are tidy and useful. You can program it to turn on and off at a certain time or run continuously. You can also program it to maintain a specific percentage of humidity. When I first turned on the unit, the humidity in the apartment was 58%. Now, it's 35%. I'm guessing the unit will continue to work hard for a few more days. Meaning, if the apartment was full of humidity, there's probably still a lot more drying out left to do. Moisture that's been held in the carpet and walls for ages. I'm just guessing here, we'll see how things go. Some reviewers remark about units like this throwing off heat. Apparently, those people failed their physics classes. This dehumidifier works by causing water to condense using a cold process. If machinery deliberately creates cold, there has to be a corresponding production of heat somewhere. Check out the back of your refrigerator and see for yourself. Criticisms based upon heat production are asking the manufacturers to defy the laws of physics. I have central air but I'm not using it. The overhead fan suffices. So the heat from this unit is quite acceptable in my humble opinion. Best of all, the coasters I mentioned earlier WORK now. I had no idea I was practically swimming in my apartment, there was so much water. Like I said, I haven't had it a full 24 hours and I've already emptied it THREE TIMES. Hint: when you buy this unit, pay attention to the fact that they store the cord wrapper in the water receiving bucket. IOW, you cannot just plug the unit in and start without first emptying the bucket. There are tags on the unit which tell you that, but you know how some people are. This is better than romance. I LOVE IT. And I'm betting you will too.

Needed one for the basement.
Works great for our basement. Keeps it nice and dry. Bought the hose that was advertised with the unit and that was a waste of money. The hose did not fit and we needed to get parts to make it fit. The hose was for a high pressure washer. Should have bought the display gadget that was advertised for about $20.00. All in all great machine and does what was promised.

Does the job
Works great, not huge, low noise, easy move about if required....and takes care of the basement humidity...clothes not damp like before when hung to dry -i recommend. Oh hose sold separately, does not come with hose which is odd.

Good all around Dehumidifier
We had previously a good unit from another Name Brand but the refrigerant lost pressure. This new unit is quieter and seems a lot more efficient. I would have rated it a "5" but the design has the drain hose out of the back which seriously limits where the unit can be located. An out of the side hose is a much better configuration.

Discarded after 4 months use
We bought the dehumidifier 14 months ago and used it all last summer. We got one container with condensation this year and now the bottom half of the coils freeze over. The manufacturer won’t deal with it as we bought on Amazon from another company. Local repair shop tells us that it is probably a Freon (?) leek and not worth fixing. So it is some $580 down the drain after 4 months use.
