## Overview

The RealTruck BAKFlip F1 is a hard folding tonneau cover designed exclusively for 2004-2014 Ford F-150 trucks with 5'6" beds. Crafted in the USA with global materials, it features a robust polymer top laminated over a rigid EPS core and epoxy-coated aluminum base, delivering a 400 lb load capacity and superior durability. Its no-drill installation and integrated water drainage system ensure easy setup and reliable weather protection, while locking tailgate compatibility enhances security. Engineered for professionals who demand strength, style, and functionality, the BAKFlip F1 elevates your truck bed’s utility and appearance with minimal effort.

## Description

The BAKFlip F1 tonneau cover has two main positions: Folded upright, giving you total access to your truck bed with rear window protection, and folded down, leaving you with a truck bed cover that locks into place to protect your cargo from both the weather and sticky-fingered bandits. But perhaps the most stand-out quality of the BAKFlip F1 truck bed cover is its ability to not just withstand, but excel in extreme work and weather conditions. You can leave the denting, cracking, warping, fading, rusting and corrosion to lesser tonneau covers, because this thing boasts a polymer top, leak-proof rubber seals and EPDM rubber hinges that are made to outlast your truck. They certainly won’t let you down the next time you need to haul cargo during a sudden downpour. The BAK team knows how to make quality products, and the BAKFlip F1 keeps up with its namesake with high-tech, bulletproof construction and a long list of design features. They started with a super-rigid EPS core and then sandwiched it between - or, rather, laminated it with - a fiberglass-reinforced polymer on top and an epoxy-coated aluminum on bottom. Ok, so it may not be "bulletproof." But, no would-be thieves are getting through that deck any time soon. When you add in the fact that the top of the cover can handle a load rating of 400 lbs, it makes the BAKFlip F1 35% stronger than its younger cousin, the BAK G2 - and puts it lightyears ahead of other truck bed covers on the market.

Review: F1 is a perfect fit on a 2013 F-150 SuperCrew - My chief concerns were security and weather resistance. The F1 does a good job on the first and an excellent job on the latter. The fit is very tight. I saw reviews indicating people had problems with the rubber edge flaps not laying flat. I've had no such problem. In fact, the wrinkles completely relaxed and laid perfectly flat after a day in the sun and about 75 degrees. No heavy rain since I did the installation, but I washed the truck and really hit it pretty good with a strong steam. There was slight leakage at the tail gate - but I have the tailgate step and the intrusion was at the seams for the step on the tailgate top. One other area was a trickle at the passenger wheel well where there is a fold point. This was where water puddled on the top of the cover for an extended period - part of my test - and the trickle was really very slight. No puddle in the bed, just a water line down the side of the bed. I am not concerned about leaving anything routine in the bed. Anything terribly water sensitive would not be in the bed long anyway, right? (Date of manufacture was less than 90 days before I got it. I suspect that may have been a factor in way the seals relaxed so quickly - it had not been folded long.) As for security, I'd rate it as moderately secure with a locking tailgate. You could get in with a pry bar if you wanted, perhaps a skilled slim jim or hanger could release the cable, but for most purposes, I would say it is fairly secure. And, hey, appearance counts too. In this regard, the F1 is awesome. It really completes the look of the truck. It is almost invisible from the side and looks great up close. Gloss, textured black is simple and sharp. It is a little heavyish to flip after the first panel. If you have lifted your truck or are a little shorter, I imagine the FiberMax might be an easier option. I don't mean to say it hard to flip, it isn't. But, something to think about if reach or use of two hands is an issue. Time will tell if the rubber holds up to the Colorado sun and low humidity. But, it really is a good product at a good price point to solve issue of how to cover your bed. If you are thinking fuel economy gain will pay for the cost as some sites advertise, I am seeing no appreciable change in fuel economy. I ordered from desertcart late on a Tuesday and it was here when I got home from work on Thursday. How great is that! And, it arrived in perfect condition. Well done Bak and desertcart! Update: After a few good rains, I am very impressed with the F1's weather resistance. We have has a couple of very good thunderstorms and the bed has remained dry. Absolutely ok to keep sporting goods in the bed. I would still be nervous about anything too sensitive to getting wet, but that may fade as my confidence in the F1's weather resistance improves. So far so good. I have no worries with golf bags, fertilizer, sand, etc., being left in the bed when it rains. Finally, I have seen advertisements claiming that fuel economy improves with the cover installed. I've got the Ecoboost engine and have seen zero change in fuel economy. While it would seem sensible to think that aerodynamics is improved, I am seeing no difference in fuel economy in city or highway driving.
Review: Easy to install - Looks Great! - This tonneau cover is the strongest offering from BAK Industries, which was an important consideration as I plan to use it as a platform for shooting video from time to time. It does get quite hot to the touch under the sun, as the material is not especially reflective, and of course, it is black. Unless you have a crowbar, if you've locked the tailgate, there's no good way to break into the thing - another important consideration if you want to leave valuable items in the bed when you go have lunch somewhere. Installation was really very easy, and after watching a how-to YouTube video, I had it on the truck and totally complete in about 30 minutes, with the help of my wife, who held some of the bolts in place while I installed them under the cover. It fit absolutely perfectly, and I didn't need to make any cuts to my bed liner (Rhino Liner) to make it work. I do think the claims about saving 2 MPG due to having it installed is probably a little generous. I haven't noticed a significant change in my mileage. Of course, it probably weighs near 60 lbs, so that doesn't help. But, that's not why I bought it anyway. So far, it has proven to be mostly water-tight, with just a couple of very minor drip leaks in a moderate rain storm a few days after I installed it. I would feel pretty confident in leaving just about anything in the bed with the cover closed. All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a secure and strong option. Just remember to wear gloves if you're working on a hot day - this thing might burn your fingerprints off!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality bedcover
*by C***W on February 16, 2013*

After a lot of searching the web and reading comments of Amazon purchasers decided to go with the BakFlip F1. I selected this over a one-piece hard-top cover because: (1) it sits flush with the top of the be rails (instead of hanging over the edges); (2) it is opens easily to have full access to bed (instead of having to remove the hardcover for 1 piece units); (3) is locking without requiring an extra key (just lock the tailgate). Rain-Resistance: The other reviewers here have varied in how water tight their backflip has been. Mine is good around front and sides, but there is a small gap near both corners of the tailgate area, so get a small amount (maybe ¼ cup) of water in when it rains. But this is not problem for me. Overall, I would have appreciated about ½ inch more rubber seal across all 4 edges. Security: the locking mechanism are 2 plastic latches on each folding section. Probably wouldn't be hard to defeat with a pry bar, so would have preferred they be metal. But unless someone knows you have something underneath the cover, not sure why they would bother. Installation: There were no paper installation instructions with the product. Installation was fairly easy by watching video on YouTube, although mine had a few extra parts than the one in the video. Overall, took me about 1 ½ hours, but now that I know how to do it, can take it all off and back on in 20min. 1 person can assemble the entire thing easily, except you need a second person to hold the bolts while you tighten the 2 corner fasteners that hold the top in place. Gas: have not seen other post on this, but this product does cut down on air drag. My highway millage has always consistently been 17.8mpg. With the BakFlip, I now get 19mpg. So at today's gas prices, the BakFlip should pay for itself in fuel savings after only 3,809 gallons (that's like 2.9 years if you go through a tank a week on an F150). Durability: The aluminum is solid. Am concerned about the durability of the rubber wear the hinges bend, but time will tell. Shipping: The packaging on this is impressive. They pour in a foam over both sides of the F1 inside the box. So chances of it arriving safe are very good. Product Update September, 2016. After 3.5 years of use, my BakFlip remains in very good shape. At first application, I was concerned about durability of the rubber on outside of frame at the hings, but they show no signs of breakage or wear. Over time, with sun and heat exposure, the rubber molds to the truck and I no longer get any rain leakage inside the truck any more. The textured surface as gotten a bit discolored, where the indented parts of the texture hold a white film, like hard water discoloration. Yet overall has retained black appearance and has not faded. I am very pleased with the durability of this product and would buy it again.
