These particular pedals combine the best of both worlds, cheap and alloy. These are great replacements for use on one-piece 'Ashtabula' cranks found on older bikes and dept store bikes. Don't expect $140 performance from $14 pedals, but you can improve on them. Like all cheap pedals(plastic or alloy) bearing preload is often too tight, and will not freely spin. This can be easily adjusted for better performance. *Only perform this modification if you or your mechanic is capable of such work, I take no responsibility for you or your mechanics actions.* Remove the plastic end cap, Remove the small lock nut, Remove the crush washer, Using a flathead screwdriver, or pick, loosen the second preload nut ~1/8 turn(there isn't room for a normal socket on the preload nut inside the pedal). Re-assemble as per factory and test. Pedal should spin freely with no slop/clunk. Verify the lock nut is properly installed wrench tight.
