Great shampoo that I used for years that they have discontinued...
This Neutrogena product has been my go-to shampoo for years and years for getting my hair back to shiny and clean-feeling. I wasn't allergic to any of the ingredients, it removed all the residues and waxy conditioner stuff, and I just loved the scent. Now it's gone forever and they have another shampoo line in its place, which I looked into. It apparently includes grapefruit to entice the folks that love the idea of "green" and organic, and according to the reviews of it, the scent is quite strong, so I have to reject it. I won't buy a grapefruit-scented shampoo. The only scent I like in hair products is lavender, a lemon scent as in the 1970s, or a true coconut smell, which is not easy to find. I have always smelled a shampoo or conditioner before I buy it if I am unfamiliar with the product. Any hint of that horrid green apple or any other fruity scents, or that awful peppermint smell that you find in nearly all the Tea Tree shampoos (which actually stings my scalp, and I'm NOT talking about the Tea Tree oil, just the mint, which I'm allergic to), and I'm outa there. Sigh. One of many items that have been great but have been discontinued. I haven't found another clarifying shampoo that does what this one did. They all leave something behind, and that's the last thing my scalp eczema wants...so, for everyone else who misses this great shampoo, I sincerely hope you find something else that works well for you. There must be something out there that I haven't found yet! I am hoping some company that does knockoffs buys the original formula and puts it out there...like one of the dollar stores. And that I find out about it somehow. They used to do that with some once-popular but finally discontinued perfumes. I'm waiting, world! Are you listening, Neutrogena? We loved the stuff! You had a dedicated clientele! I am not unwilling to try a new line of yours. But grapefruit? No, sorry. Perhaps you will offer something else in time...I can only hope.

Works great
The first picture is taken after my hair air-dried after I used this shampoo. The second picture is after my hair air-dried after I used my regular shampoo, the OGX volumizing shampoo. My hair is always frizzy even if I glue it to my head with hairspray, so just ignore that. My hair is fine - not thin, I have lots of it, the follicles just aren't thick - so I use volumizing shampoo to give my ED hair a lift and make it have a little more bounce and shine. This Neutrogena shampoo does a great job cleaning off the build-up and it smells really nice. I got it 25 September and I use it every Sunday to refresh my hair. If my hair has too much buildup, I'll use it again the next day or again sometime in the week. I've also used it twice in one day for excess buildup or gunk and it works really nicely like that too. I've not noticed any damage to my hair outside of my own poor hair care routine. I don't know what reaction some people are having to the ingredients, but I've not had any problems. I honestly love it. No damage to my hair or any hair loss, doesn't weigh it down, doesn't burn, itch, or sting, it removes the buildup, it smells great, and my hair is super soft when it's all dry. I highly recommend if you want to get rid of the buildup.

It’s works
My wife’s review: I have had a lot of trouble with greasy hair over the last few years, especially after having a baby. Nothing I have tried would help. my hair would literally be greasy after getting out of the shower. It was not a great feeling. I randomly stumbled upon this shampoo when scouring the internet for better answers, and I’m SO GLAD I did because it WORKS. After one use my hair feels so soft, so clean, it’s bouncy, shiny and there is no grease in sight (Atleast for the moment and that’s enough for me). I’ve read that it’s discontinued which stinks but I’m so glad I found it when I did. If you are on the fence about it, just buy it and see the magic for yourself✨ the scent does not bother me at all and I honestly feel like I walked out of the hair salon- it’s THAT good!!!

Cleansing for White-Skin Dreadlocks.
I am Caucasian and have dreadlocks, I read someone else having dreadlocks in the reviews and they said it cleansed well, since that was what I was looking for - and truth be told it does. It will not get all the crap out from build up like wax and shae butter and all that junk, but it will get out the weekly wear and tear of products. My only gripe is that though it is cheap if you have tons of dreads like I do, very thick hair full of volume like I do, it takes quite a bit of this product to get it all in there and let it work its magic, and due to that this stuff goes fast. The bottle is tiny, you're talking aftershave bottle tiny. I feel like I am at some hotel every time I use it, my little sample bottle of shampoo that cost me $5. I notice if you do not really get in there and let it lather it doesn't do much more than water. You have to let it lather and sit there a bit, the breakup process must take a little time because if I am in a hurry and lay it on there, work it in a little then rinse, I'll have plenty of residue left over. It is very moisturizing though and adding some aloe to those locks afterwards only compliments them. I definitely notice that my hair went from overly gunked-up tough rope like locks to soft beautiful moisturized locks and all I changed was the shampoo. I still use my lime-mango jelly to keep them pretty, the occasional water-style, and this shampoo. Even once a week, the stuff works great! Recommended for white people with dreadlocks.

Read the formulation -- this is to deep clean. Exactly what I needed!! Long time user LOVE IT
I have purchased Neutrogena shampoos for years. There are 3 different formulations -- so be sure to read the details when selecting the one that you purchase. 1) This one is for deep cleaning, great for removing hair spray and added products to a good wash 2) Regular shampoo is for everyday cleaning -- that is NOT this one 3) Brown color shampoo T-Gel is for scalp and really great medicated shampoo All three are gently fragranced to almost no fragrance. Quality is consistent. Purchased for MANY years. *** SHIPPING*** I selected the Amazon Prime overnight option because I had a furniture emergency. Believe it or not my local furniture store recommends Neutrogena shampoo to spot clean upholstery of my recliner!! I spilled milk of all things -- oh dear -- and about 4 tablespoons on the arm and down in between cushion and side of my chair. And I don't want it to set too long *** So I plan to use a small amount and try a small spot and see how it does. *** USE A SMALL AMOUNT WHEN YOU USE THIS SHAMPOO --- then add a bit add as needed. This is NOT your $1.00 department store shampoo.

A must-have shampoo if you care about your hair, I mean if you truly care about your hair at all.
A must-have shampoo if you care about your hair, I mean if you truly care about your hair at all. If you truly care about your hair as I discovered even as a man you must buy the shampoo and use it at least once maybe even twice a week to remove all built up residue gunk and love hair products from other shampoos conditioners gels mousses and other things we put in our hair daily. This shampoo feels like in revitalizes, protects, invigorates, I don't know how to describe it your hair is just silky smooth afterwards and it just feels at least mine does like a the hair I had when I was a young child it feels like hair should feel all natural strong yet pliable not too heavy not to feed lighten frail or thin just wonderful clean pleasant scented God-given hair. I highly suggest purchasing a bottle and using it once a week perhaps twice if you are a woman or a man who likes to put a lot of stuff in your hair I myself only put occasional spray oil conditioner once in a while so I only use it once a week and for the price it's great value I'm telling you it revitalizes your hair keeps it moist but not like A conditioner it it's almost like this clear perfume list chemical is it shampoo just brings back old and natural qualities of your hair it doesn't add anything to it to make it seem natural it just eliminates was artificial and brings the natural back. Invest in a bottle today trust me you won't regret it :-)

sneaky clean, but DEFINITELY need conditioner/hair mask
I just used this for the first time this morning and my hair is already a lot cleaner and less weighed down than it has been. I've never really had an issue with oily hair until the past couple of weeks. Thyroid issues and birth control wreaked havoc on my hormones over the past 3 years and caused me to lose about half of my gorgeous locks so I have been testing different shampoos/conditioners/growth serums to try and get it back. This has left my hair very dry and prone to breakage so i have to be careful with products that are drying and have been overdoing it with moisturizing products in an effort to restore health to my once very-enviable hair. I switched to dove's moisturizing dandruff shampoo to help combat dandruff and an itchy scalp without drying everything out too much, but i think this caused sebum to become super active as my roots have been getting very oily as soon as my hair is dry after the shower and by the next morning look like i had a very sweaty 3-hour workout and i have to shower again with the same result no matter if i don't use shampoo or if i shampoo a couple times. I bought this hoping it would help and my hair has dried with no signs of oil yet. I will update if it comes back by tomorrow, but it already feels a lot less weighted down and oily than it did before I made the switch and had some problems. It is definitely drying though so I would HIGHLY suggest doing a hair mask or deep conditioner only on your ends to deter breakage/tangling post-shower.

Best shampoo ever!
My old hair products left residue that caused dandruff. Something like 15 years ago, I discovered Neutrogena Anti-residue clarifying shampoo. Not only did it completely solve the dandruff problem, but left my fine, thin hair clean, soft, and with lots of body and it has a lovely light fragrance. I have used this shampoo exclusively ever since then, along with a light conditioner. I'm super bummed that Neutrogena has discontinued this shampoo. I've tried alternatives that reviewers suggested such as Neutrogena Healthy Scalp Hydro boost and Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two. Both leave my hair flat and weighed down. So, I'm reduced to buying pricey remainders until they're gone. The ones that came with this order had broken packaging and one of the bottles was leaking, so my rating is for the shampoo, not the seller. Neutrogena, hear my plea to bring back this product!
