How can this be good for hair when it contains alcohol? I thought alcohol was very drying.

I used to think the same thing. But, as it turns out, not all alcohols are created equal. If you Google "Alcohol in hair products," lots of information comes up, including lists like this one: Good Alcohols: Cetyl alcohol Stearyl alcohol Myristyl alcohol Lauryl alcohol Behenyl alcohol Cetearyl alcohol Neutral Alcohols: Benzyl alcohol (mostly used as preservative & has no effect on how hair looks and feels) Propylene Glycol (This type is often used as humectants in products) Bad Alcohols: (They are usually the short chain alcohols and are very drying. Used to help products evaporate quickly) SD Alcohol 40 Ethanol SD Alcohol Propyl Porpanol Isopropyl

Can you leave this on overnight with a shower cap?

I put the conditioner on my hair & cover it with a shower cap for 5 minutes while I shave my legs, wash, etc. I suppose you could sleep in the shower cap but it seems like overkill to me.

I have thick hair, down to my waist. I only had to use a bit for my entire head. I've used it 3 times and it's still almost full.
