This is an out-of-continuity tale set many years in a dystopian future where the supervillains have taken over the world. By out-of-continuity, I mean that you do not have to come into this book having any previous knowledge of the characters at all, so don't worry new readers. Long-term readers need not fret either because there's nice nods to Marvel's past in this book like the Spider-Mobile as well as the story being similar to stories like Days of Future Past. This was a fun, fast-paced story with tons of "holy crap!" moments as well as amazing art by Steve McNiven. It reads fast because there's not a lot of dialogue or annoying thought boxes, but that's mostly due to Millar not wanting to obscure any of McNiven's beautiful pencils. The phrase a picture is worth a thousand words is applicable to this story. If you've read Civil War you'll know the caliber of artist McNiven is, and the story in Old Man Logan is even stronger than CW. The main story starts out with a much older Logan (no longer the superhero Wolverine) struggling to make ends meet for his family on his property in a now barren California ranch. He can no longer make rent and his landlords, the Hulk Gang, have killed families who missed their rent. He is approached by his old Avenger friend Hawkeye who propositions they go on a journey across the country to New Babylon on the East Coast to deliver a mysterious package. For his troubles, Hawkeye will give Logan $500, which will more than pay the rent. Logan is reluctant at first, he just wants to live in peace with his family and had a traumatizing incident that has scarred him into no longer wanting to fight but he finally agrees and they go off on the adventure. It's very interesting to see everybody in this world to be in complete poverty, with children being lucky to have 50 year old Xbox's. One of the stops is at a superhero shrine where people gather to pray the heroes will come back to save them. Almost all of America's former great cities are in complete ruins and the survivors have to worry about roaming dinosaurs, cruel supervillain overlords and Moloids (underground creatures that wreak havoc on the surface world). There will be a cool version of Venom in this story, as well as the new Kingpin. In the end, we will find out what was in the package, there will be a explanation as to why Logan is no longer Wolverine and there's an amazing showdown between Wolverine (did you really think he was going to be a pacifist the whole book?) and the Hulk Gang as well as the President. It's strongly hinted there will be a sequel and just today Millar has said he will begin working on one due to the strong success of Old Man Logan.
