I ordered weeks ago and there has been no update** A: the item has been shipped **Q: how does this kit compare with the 83001kit that uses aquablocks (vs aquabasin) and pump vault?** A: Because I've never handled the 83001 kit I can't provide you definitive information for comparison purposes, just my assumptions based off of all the research I've done on both kits. The 83001 appears to be coming the new standard for waterfall builders. When you look at how the kits are assembled it makes sense. The aqua blocks provide much more flexibility in creating your layout especially when you get into tighter spaces where you have less room to work with. This also comes into play from an effort standpoint when you consider the amount of digging you have to do if this is a DIY project. The aqua basin that comes in 83013 kit is pretty big so you have to dig out a larger area which some people may not have the real estate (or stamina) to accommodate along with all of the decor and landscaping material they want to include in their project. Depending on your design the pump vault may be easier to access for maintenance and cleaning than the pump that's located inside the aqua basin on the earlier kit. So again it's a personal preference thing. When you compare the kit contents component for component the pumps seem to be identical They have the same flow rate the same reliability factor and the same industry reputation amongst pond and waterfall builders so I don't think you can go wrong with either. The only differences that I noted between the two kits is the hose that feeds the spillway is shorter on the 83-013 kit and the underlayment that they provided with my kit was basically a 4x6 piece of underlayment. That was way too small and would only provide liner support right at the aqua basin. I'm not sure of the exact dimensions of the newer kits underlayment but it seems significantly larger. I ended up having to buy a separate much larger and thicker underlayment. It might have been overkill but for the amount of work I've put into my project I feel it's worthwhile insurance to prevent a puncture. Basically these two kids are very identical minus a few very minor differences. My advice is determine the complexity and location of your waterfall and see which kit will best suit those two factors. The big giant fixed basin or the smaller more customizable aqua block and pump vault? Then go from there. If you follow the instructions and hit up a couple of the YouTube channels that specialize in this for some detailed insider tips and knowledge you won't go wrong either way. Kit has everything needed. Dirt Monket University 6 Hour Waterfall Youtube video is very helpful and full of great tips.
