I needed a fan that would run from 12VDC to use in my boat. We have a Church service at the lake during the summer that I enjoy attending, but it can get really hot sitting in the boat tied to the dock for an hour!! I picked this unit especially because it is designed for 8 D cell batteries (12VDC) and not 6 (9VDC). It does not come with a cable for a cigarette lighter, but they are easy to find. Very happy with the amount of air it moves and that it is quiet enough not to be noticed by others. I have also installed the 8 D cell batteries now and useded it for the last two Sundays with only the internal batteries. Don’t know how long they will last but after approx 1 hour each Sunday and being stored in a boat locker (temps in upper 90 degree range) it is still running like new! I am very happy with this purchase and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. Just make sure it uses 8 and not 6 batteries if you want to plug directly into a car or boat. ;-) Update: Our summer is over and we are back home, but this fan performed flawlessly and was a real life saver during Church at the river! Worked great with a cigarette lighter cable I already had with or without internal batteries, but it definitely stands up better with the weight of the installed batteries ;-). Definitely recommend these O2Cool fans!!!

Why did you pick this product vs others?: A relative of mine was living with me for a short time. She had one of these. She always told me get one of these battery operated. I thought yeah right. Probably doesn’t work that great. My power went out for 4 hours and very hot outside. Got the fan out. I was surprised how awesome this worked. Granted it takes some big batteries and quite a few but SO worth it. It kept the air cool in kitchen/fam room areas. Therefore-after using the relative’s fan, you know I bought not one, but two. Put the batteries in, perfect! Great circulation. Thank you!

Works well. Quiet enough, but I like a little white noise to sleep to. Adaptability for travel is great with the battery pack. Lasted a few days with regular overnight use and even left it on one day the entire day. Good buy!

The fan is powerful. Both speed 1 and speed 2 are great. I live in tropical climate where the weather is HOT and the humidity is high. This fan performs well here. Its a bit heavy because you need 8 x D sized batteries to run it. But that weight is also a good thing because the 8 x D sized batteries give the fan a heavy base, making it very hard to topple on speed 1 or speed 2 and even if someone kicks the fan lightly by accident. Im knocking one 1 star off the rating because the switch moves too easily. I placed it in my motorcycle top-box and while i was riding, the fan managed to switch itself on due to the flimsy switch and vibrations on the road. It spun and spun inside my motorcycle box while i obviously had no idea because i was concentrating on the road and no one would stop their motorcycle every 15 minutes to check their luggage if their battery-powered fan somehow managed to switch itself on and was spinning away happily. When i arrived at my destination and took the fan out to use, i realised the fan was switched on, was spinning, and because of the vibrations of the road, one blade managed to break off from the fan entirely. With only 4 out of 5 of the fan blades intact, the fan vibrated like mad because of the imbalance, made a heck lot more noise, and pushed a heck less air. My suggestion would be to use a strong masking tape or scotch tape to secure the switch at all times when not using.

This is a great fan. It moves a ton of air and hardly uses any power. Fairly quiet as fans go and it saves me running my sound machine at night. We appreciate the low watt usage for our off grid living. We run it during the day to move air connected to our 12v system. (No 12v plug is supplied so I rigged one) At night we run it with a Jackery1000 and it only uses about 10%. The tilt adds some versatility and it looks good on our dresser. Fully portable and good price. This is a winner in our book.

These work well on size D batteries. As long as you are close to the fan , the breeze is adequate.

But where I live, in Wilmington North Carolina, has long been known as a hurricane alley. 2018’s Florence was particularly devastating. I was powerless for 10 days, in 90 degree heat. And believe you me, this fan was a lifesaver.

It is very versatile with 3 power options. It's easy to use. I loke tgat you can screw the battery cover on. It pushes enough air. Batteries just aren't going to push the same amount of air as being plugged in. It's portable and good for camping. It's not too small or too big to have on a nightstand or in your tent. I don't think it's very loud.

A very nice fan. Bit noisy but I wanted it bc it can be used with batteries when hydro goes out!
