Worth the purchases
It works as described. You have to align the nail with a finger as you place it, but if you do that, it strikes pretty true. The very first strike removes the paint. That's pretty much the only issue I had with mine. You'll still need a flat bar to find those hidden nails that you'll need to remove before slipping the new shingle in, as this won't do that properly. However, the claw removes the nail much better than the flat bar. So, two things this does well. It removes the nails it can access quite well. It places the nail (with your help) properly to get a couple of good strikes in. Then, you pull it out, place the solid area on top of the nail and strike it once or twice to finish it. I'd use a flat bar for everything else. One possible improvement is a design that allows you to properly align the shingle, like a tab on a roofing hammer does, but that's nit picky.

Great design.
Finally got to use this replacing a vent pipe flashing. It works perfectly. Helps start nails under the shingles when you’re relacing and saves from chipping the front edge of the upper shingle. This was obviously designed by a real roofer.

PERFECT TOOL FOR WHAT I NEEDED!!!
I purchased this for the simple fact that I knew it would save me money for the job that I had to do on my House and garage roof. I had to pull First , and in some cases second, row of nails from replacing facia and shingle mold trim around house and garage. After seeing plywood rot on first 6” on one side of garage, I had to pull first 6 rows of shingles to remove 2’ of plywood. Contractors wanted anywhere from $4500 to $6500 to do job. 2 of em tried to sell me a complete new roof… $10K to$12K. FT!!! No one was willing or wanted to do I wanted done the way I wanted it done. I knew about this tool for about a year or so. Read previous reviews on this to educate myself… Just in case. Glad I did!! DO NOT USE A REGULAR METAL HAMMER WITH THIS… YOU WILL BREAK IT ON FIRST OR SECOND NAIL!! USE A 2lb DEAD BLOW!!! (cheap at Harbor Frieght) Mine worked fine with either hot dipped or electroplated galvanized nails…. I suggest using hot dipped. I had some, used em up , and all the stores I went to only had electroplated in the size I needed. Perfect tool for the niche it was designed for!!
