Coming Into Its Own
Big fan of the original Golf Club game. Bought TGC2 week 1, and yes, there were several issues. Most notable of these was graphical hiccups in the putting making it a nightmare. Also, there were crashes, and I decided to go with Tour clubs out of the gate (big mistake).I'm happy to say that a lot of the bugs have been worked out, and the game is quite playable with Standard or Player clubs. The Tour clubs just require too much precision to justify the distance boosts. This game values putting the ball in the fairway, so select clubs you can be accurate with. This is a golf simulation, first and foremost. There's a lot of nuance and variables to consider when trying to execute a shot. It frustrates and rewards just as the game of golf does. Ball physics are close to realistic. You won't feel cheated at all by the game, now that the bugs have been fixed. The Societies section is great. It requires an internet connection, but NOT PlayStation Plus. Basically, an individual has a club house where they can invite friends and host tournaments. One YouTuber (TheApexHound) has a society and is hosting Tournaments with 300+ participants!Course creator is back, and people are already recreating Augusta, Oakmont, Merion, and more. TGC had thousands of courses, and TGC2 is just getting started. If you are a golfer, this is the ultimate experience for you.

Honest review from a 5 handicap
Honest review: a few bugs on the original release. They have been patched and are running smoothly. Most people complain about the controls. It's a simulator people. I was very frustrated when I started too. Was shooting 35/40 handicap. Now I after a few weeks of work I am down to a 5 handicap, getting birdies and eagles on a regular basis. This isn't a game for kids. It's a hardcore simulator. I will say that this is one of the most rewarding games I have played once you understand the game mechanics. Societies are super cool. I will say the hardest part is putting. It takes roughly 20/30 rounds to get good. Now I am draining 25/40 foot putts. So sick when they drop. Price is only 40? Sick deal so much replay value. Graphics are a lil slow to load. They fix that and this game would be even better. This company doesn't have an ea budget remember that. You buy this game for the gameplay. Biggest tip! Stay in the fairway!!! I recommend starting from the women's tee and working your way back as you get comfortable. I and I almost forgot! My putting in real life has gotten better from playing this simulator! No joke! Don't pass this game up! Look forward to crushing your soul online!

Rough Start
As anyone could ascertain from the current selection of reviews, this game has had a rough launch so far. But let us try to look at the situation fairly and not get all emotional. First off: yes, the game heavily relies on internet connectivity. I'm personally uncertain why they chose this, but I am guessing aside from the game having a heavy social focus, it may also be to curb cheating. Regardless, because of this, most of the features of the game are unavailable without a connection, and currently you will likely be booted from your games when a server hiccup occurs--the game does save your progress, though, and you will be able to resume, assuming no other error occurred to interfere. You can play individual "official" courses (18 courses, currently) offline as well, but again, not career mode. The devs are vocal in their insistence that the problem is being worked on.As for the game itself, it has many similarities to TGC1, so I'll skip those basics and anyone can view those reviews that already exist for the original. The most significant changes are: controls, physics, graphics and societies.Controls: This will undoubtedly be the biggest point of contention beyond the connectivity issues. TGC2 has gone all-in with the sim aspect of the game. They've abandoned any sense of arcade/casual aspects (which the original didn't really have, either), and have made a control scheme that pretty much requires practice to master. Even TGC1 veterans will need time to adjust. Not only must one have a steady thumb, but you now must take into account the "tempo" of your swing, the timing of the back and forth motion. This will also affect your performance, so now the swing mechanics are doubly tricky, and the three tiers of club grow in difficulty, but grant you further distances in return. Further adding difficulty, the ball lie also affects trajectory (ball lie now has a small grid akin to the putting green). To put it simply, the skill ceiling in this game is undoubtedly the highest of any contemporary golf game to date and was surely designed to reward persistence and encourage a competitive level of play similar to that of real-life golf.Physics: The original game had somewhat stodgy physics. The ball felt floaty at times and sluggish in others. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't feel quite right all the time. The physics here have been improved quite a bit, and it shows, though it's hard to say it's "perfect." It's one of those things that's hard to describe in words, but overall it feels better. Newcomers won't notice, but TGC1 players will have to adjust.Graphics: Another reviewer describes the game's visuals as having the look of a 10 year old game. Nonsense. While I will admit it isn't the most amazing graphics ever seen, it certainly is a step up from the original, including better performance. The greens look more vibrant and small subtle changes such as clouds obscuring the sun and creating temporary shade, are a nice touch. It almost borders on a "cartoonish" color palette, but not quite--just enough to not look muted and drab. [Although I've realized it depends on the course, some are more vibrant than others, but overall the look is a bit more stylistic than photo-realistic.] I think it was a good design choice. The motion capture for the player models are a step up this time, as well. Also, more customization options.Societies: The social focus of the game. Aside from adding local players, ghosts, and "rivals" (requesting other players, friend or stranger, playing the same course to join you live), there are societies. where you can gather a group of players and run your own events. There is also a clubhouse feature where that you can upgrade. Edit: As server problems have been alleviated somewhat (though not yet completely), I've been able to dabble in the societies. Currently you can only join 5 societies. There are a handful of "official" societies, most based off HCP (your handicap rating). Basically, it acts like tournaments did before but partitions them into separate social circles. Private societies can be created by anyone, and the game is already infested with 1-member clubs. As with any game, there are issues. The server problems at launch have been noted repeatedly already, and will be overcome soon, no doubt. Otherwise, there are various bugs, which again, will likely get stamped out in time. One problem I've noticed is some strange inconsistencies in the swing/ball mechanics, such as slicing right, with straight wind, and the ball going straight or left. This could involve some underlying mechanics, a complete glitch in the code, or simply due to lag from the server difficulties (most likely). This sort of issue has been uncommon, but not rare, for me. BUT, allow me to say that I know these devs are dedicated, as shown from their work with TGC1, and I have full faith they will iron all this out in time. Some suggestions: The devs really should have included an offline mode separate from the online environment for people who want to play offline completely. They also should include "classic" or "easy" swing mechanics also separate from online stats for people who want to play casually. The new system really will be daunting for those just wanting a relaxing round after work, or after a few too many, if you get my drift. Also, adding a filter for societies that allows sorting my number of members, to find more active societies to join without have to wade through all the 1-member throwaway clubs. Also, true Match Play with friends, rivals isn't the same.Overall, I think the game has a huge amount of potential to be the best competitive golf videogame ever. People are rightly justified in being upset over the server issues at launch, which would have been softened by having more offline options other than practice modes and a limited number of official courses--offline career is needed. But this team also does not have the resources of a company like, say, EA, and should be given some slack. If TGC1 is any indication, they will straighten this all out and we will be left with a great game. For now, I'll leave this at 4 stars, and bump it to 5 once they inevitably iron out all the wrinkles. Or sink it to 1 if they break my heart.UPDATE 1: The devs have already stabilized the servers somewhat, but not 100%. My suspicion is that much of the swing/ball mechanic hiccups are due to these server issues, also. So hopefully once everything is stable, most of my biggest gripes will be eliminated.UPDATE 2: It seems they've finally stabilized the servers, I rarely get kicked anymore, though now they need to optimize them with the game. Loading up certain menus can sometimes take a little too long. Swing lag is not as bad as it once was, but may still occur from time to time. I hope these things are on the top of their to-fix list. Also, continue to be wary of people criticizing the controls. You know that one golfing buddy who loses his mind after a few slices? Seem familiar? I've been playing a lot and getting better--a real sense of progression.UPDATE 3: The game runs great now. Most problems are fixed. UI still isn't great, and never will be. Small potatoes. Everything else is great.

Still in beta
First let me say that this particular company in game blows away Tiger Woods or anything from EA Sports. It is more a golf simulation then an arcade computer game.I gave it three stars because it is still in beta. Golf Club 2 crashes more often than the first version of the game. This means that if you're designing a golf course you have to save it quite often. The company recently issued 1.02 patch to fix certain bugs that it still crashes. Another reason for the average rating was that they failed to fix the swing mechanic glitch. They added Tempo to your swing but the game lags so that your tempo is not correct in the backswing. It lags or Jitters in your backswing. I don't understand why they would use the same software engine to drive this game when they can't fix the lag in the swing from the first game. With the criticism aside then Graphics seem to be improved over the first version especially the water. The game is fun to play in very challenging. They have different swing mechanics difficulties. The tour setting is quite difficult and fun to watch others play.My Hope Is they fix the lag in the swing and the crashes.

Five Stars
Came on time and described. Some issues with the game but those have nothing to do with the purchase.
