Marvelous book, marvelous series
This was the first book in this series that I bought. I love it, and have now bought three more. I have no doubt that I will be buying still more. The arrangements are excellent, and sound terrific, and all the songs are playable by an upper intermediate player, with some practice. Although the arranger is not credited in this volume, I'm reasonably certain it's Brent Edstrom, who IS credited in the other volumes that I've purchased. Also, all the chords are specified, which is a useful learning tool. This series is marvelous!

Nice way to end the day
Nice book. Easy to read. Easy to play for the intermediate player. Pages stay open when set on a stand. Sounds relaxing. Feels relaxing. Great way to end the day.

Semi-Easy to Play about Intermediate Level
I love Jazz. I remember hearing Johnny Mathis singing MISTY. He sang at the Purple Onion in San Francisco. This Jazz arrangement is nice. It has three flats A,B, and E. I play slow for now, since I have not played in a while. It still sounds good. Johnny would have liked this arrangement by Erroll Garner. With the same three flats, the song THE NEARNESS OF YOU, this song is an old familiar song. The chords are not to far a distance with only two or three finger and some extra flats along the way. Thinking of the tone, you can speed up during the melody and slow down during the transitions. I would give it 5 stars, but it a little difficult to play and not for a beginner. I had studied music for several years as a teenager with piano and voice, but not Jazz. I love the sound of Jazz and this is a big move for me from standard to Jazz. Even if you play it half good, it still sounds great.

Nothing else like it
Somehow they managed to simplify the arrangements so that they still sound professional, but not so tricky that only a gifted few can play them. I have many sheet music transcriptions of Bill Evan, Chick Corea, Mehegan jazz studies, etc that I purchased over the years, but most are so technically challenging that you can forget about getting in a relaxed groove, so I ended up just playing some playable classical sheet music from time to time to keep in practice. But this jazz piano series of Hal Leonard has really filled a need, in my opinion.

Well featured instrumental familiar tunes
Well beloved tunes like Moon River, the Nearness of You, My Funny Valentine, Body and Soul and the well known, Misty, are contained within the 24 tunes of this book. It is an instrumental book without vocals to guide you. Something you must be aware of. The notation is of intermediate level in both treble and bass clefs and chords typically in the colorful jazz style like Ebmaj13 , D7#9 , Dbmaj7 and F13##11... If these chords are unfamiliar I recommend use of the Jake Jackson piano chords (Advanced) published by Flame Tree publishing for their right and left hand diagrams and chord spellings. Jesse Jr.

Nice arrangements
I am a jazz pianist and many times these books are simplistic with boring arrangements. Not so this one! Lots of flated fifths! Highly recommend.

Magical
I have played classical piano for many years, but have gotten into slow jazz ballads as they are fun to play at parties and you can be a little sloppy, in style and sobriety, and still sound good with this type of music. The jazz series books by Hal L. are great - chords can be beefy and exciting, yet very playable. I have been searching for this type of book for a long time - buy it, I don't think you will be disappointed. I also reviewed the Jazz for Lovers book in the series, also good - some great songs in there.

Anregung
