The "5000" is a very fast tire with "good" puncture protection. The Gaterskin is a slower tire with outstanding puncture protection. While the "gaterskin hardshell" is their top of the line in puncture protection. You trade speed and weight for puncture protection. It is a trade off. The fastest tires have half the protection, but also half the rolling resistance.
