Force 10 from Navarone
**THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**Force 10 from Navarone is a 1978 British-produced war film loosely based on Alistair MacLean's 1968 novel of the same name. It is a sequel to the 1961 film, The Guns of Navarone (based on the 1957 novel of that name). The parts of Mallory and Miller are played by Robert Shaw and Edward Fox, succeeding the roles originally portrayed by Gregory Peck and David Niven. It was directed by Guy Hamilton and also stars Harrison Ford, Carl Weathers, Barbara Bach, Franco Nero, and Richard Kiel.In 1943, after their successful mission on the Greek island of Navarone, Mallory (Robert Shaw) and Miller (Edward Fox) are sent to find and kill Nicolai. Originally thought to be a traitor who informed the Germans about Miller and Mallory during the Navarone mission, Nicolai is now known to be Colonel von Ingorslebon, a dedicated German spy believed to have infiltrated the Yugoslav Partisans as "Captain Lescovar" (Franco Nero). To get to Yugoslavia, the two men pair with "Force 10", an American sabotage unit, led by Lieutenant Colonel Barnsby (Harrison Ford), which has its own mission there. To maximise security, Force 10 steals a Lancaster bomber from a British air base in Termoli, Italy, rather than requisitioning one; but they are spotted by American MPs before they can take off. Weaver (Carl Weathers), a US Army sergeant under arrest by the MPs, joins with Force 10 and forces his way onto the plane. Barnsby and crew successfully "escape" Termoli only to be shot down by Luftwaffe night fighters. Only Barnsby, Mallory, Miller, Weaver, and Force 10 member Reynolds (Angus MacInnes) manage to escape the crippled plane. On the ground, the survivors run across a group they believe to be their allies, Communist Yugoslav Partisans. Led by Captain Drazak (Richard Kiel), Force 10's rescuers are soon revealed to be collaborationist Chetniks (nationalist Serb guerrillas) under German control. The Germans take the team into custody but do not know their mission, so Mallory and Barnsby tell the commander, Major Schroeder (Michael Byrne), that they are criminals fleeing Allied authorities. To keep Schroeder from opening Miller's suitcase, which contains his special explosives, Mallory tells him that it contains a new wonder drug called "penicillin" which will spoil if exposed to air. By the next morning, the prisoners are told that Schroeder has opened the case, finding it full of firewood. Surprised, Mallory and Barnsby improvise an excuse, "admitting" they buried the samples. Schroeder sends them to retrieve them, under the guard of his concubine Maritza (Barbara Bach) and three of his soldiers. Miller, Weaver, and Reynolds are left in a cell in camp.Force 10 from Navarone is, in my opinion, a very good sequel to the original "Guns of Navarone" film. Like with the original film, this one was packed with plenty of action and was well-scripted and well-acted. Force 10 from Navarone starts off with some scenes from the original "Guns of Navarone" film before the actual storyline starts, (perhaps it was to remind us of what happened towards the end of "The Guns of Navarone"). Very highly recommended.

Blu ray review - The real truth about the topless scene
Forget about what well known movie reviews sites say about this film about being a war film with no nudity it's wrong. Sitting down with my wife I was very surprised to see a scene where Barbara Bach stands up from her bath topless. I had to explain to my wife that wasn't what I was expecting. . . The film and sound quality are ok but not amazing. Some of the close-ups, especially of Robert Shaw are clear and sharp. The story itself is good and unpredictable (for me). Some things never get explained and there are lots of goofs in the film which while fairly obvious didn't spoil it as the pace moves along. Some unexpected surprises as well and that other well known movie site didn't mention a decapitation amongst the list of violence (even thought this is a war film). So, quite a good action film of good quality that despite its many flaws still works well, and I guess a 'must' for fans of Barbara Bach.

FORCE 10...BLURAY from POWERHOUSE/INDICATOR June 2022
Not as good as the original blockbuster, but then we have here a weaker cast, and script (full of improbablities), and a director who maybe should have edited the film just a bit. For me it was too long by 20 mins and the climax is way to drawn out to the point of shouting at the screen - "get on with it"...This of course, is a purely personal OPINION - nothing more. The film remains a servicable thriller with some twists and turns and plenty of action (in between several longeurs). The location work is superb. I have never been a fan of Shaw and I can't help feeling he is horrbly miscast, but if you like him....Ford does his best with the script and Fox steals every scene even if he does look too weedy. Richard Kiel is good as "Chechnik" and Barabara Bach looks lovely (briefly semi nude) but again I felt miscast. As for Alan Badel and Michael Byrne - great in roles they can do in their sleep (Badel is surprisingly good as a Partisan chief.) Laughable in places this does pass a good 2 hours if you are in the mood, I guess maybe I was feeling just a bit cynical! The BLURAY from Poerhouse is very good quality. Picture sound and subtitles all good. Load of extras for those who want them. I just wish I had been more in the spirit of this romp through Yugoslavia.

A very fun war adventure movie
It doesn't follow the book very well, has little in common with Guns of Navarone and is disliked by critics but when you don't compare it to the book it is actually a lot of fun to watch. Some good action scenes and the usual mix of traitors, twists and explosive endings that you would come to expect from something based on an Alistair Maclean book. It is all quite fast paced and never gets boring and if you haven't read the book you will probably enjoy it even more, overall it is well worth adding to your collection just don't expect a really realistic film about the minds of men at war instead expect a very good "boys own" adventure that is fun to watch and looks really good in this new extended edition release.

wrong region Blu-ray
Neither the description or the cover showed that the region was limited to Region B . The message when I tried to play it said it had been restricted owner. I live in Region C. So I have paid for a video I cannot use. Surely sellers have an obligation to make clear the Region on which a Blu-ray or DVD can be played Very disappointed.
