SM5640 - Mount Kit

I used these mounts when replacing my 4Runner Limited’s XREAS suspension. They feel high quality and work just as they should. These come with hardware, bushings, and a bushing on the bottom molded into the mount so an additional one is not necessary on the bottom. My Eibach shocks came with a bushing that I did not need to use because of this.

Fit Gen2 Tacoma perfectly. This latest version uses 15mm whiz (locking) nuts. Studs were hard, no worry about stripping. Bushing for top of shock is already installed. Top washer and bushing are furnished. Large washer goes on top. Neoprene spring cushion seems tough and not easily torn. Used for my Bilstein 6112 coil-overs. No problem at all with installation. Top sleeve on my old shock mounts was very worn and sloppy (orig from 2013). Glad I replaced them.

Jacked my 2015 Tacoma 7" using these Shocks, in the following build: 2 X KYB Front Overload Shock Mounts 2 X Bilstein 21-239370 Off-road Shocks (Front) 2 X Bilstein 24186728 Rear Shock (This product) 2 X Old Man Emu Coil Backer Springs Supreme 2" Rear Block Lift Kit with extended U-Bolts Supreme CNC 2" Differential Drop Kit Ride is superb, and performance is better than I ever expected! Not to mention I'm only on the lower adjustments, if I get advanced control arms, I could go up as high as I want. These lifting suspensions are amazing. [ DO NOT buy the spacer front lift kit for this build, as you will not need it, and it will only throw your geometry off ]

I was hesitant to order these strut mounts because I got KYB for my wife's Lexus and they were horrendous I had to send them back look to be used where Rusty and sucked but I took a shot in the dark and ordered a set for my 4Runner the ones for the Runner come real nicely packaged are nicely painted and look to be a substantially better quality than the car ones so I used them after about a thousand miles they are Stone silent even over some serious train I would recommend these for the price for sure I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted a hundred thousand miles before they went bad recommended would purchase again

I used KYB to install my OME 886 and Bilstein 5100 for my Tacoma. Some reviews claim that the Original Tacoma (the three bolds and nuts) top nuts work for this, they do not. I opted to get this to make my coil overs and replace the factory ones. Instructions are rubbish, Look on forums, watch Youtube or reference your old equipment for correct set-up and installation.

08 FJ Cruiser 122kmi. OME suspension. I've always had this noise that sounds like two washers smacking together. A sort of light clang with a short but high pitched ping to it. Mostly on down travel of the shock. I suspected sway bar was hitting the spring perch and removed the sway bar. Noise was still there. I then suspected the spring just bottoming out the strut at full extension. I went mad trying to find the source of it and never did. Until my strut isolator bushings started to crack and I replaced the tophats and bushings with these KYB kits. As it turns out. the OEM hardware for the strut isolator bushing and washers around the top hats follow this order bottom to top. Washer>BottomBushing>TophatWasher>Tophat>TopBushing>Washer>Nut. After taking the old tophat out I now suspect that the sound I was hearing was from the washer above the bottom bushing hitting the top hat itself..the OEM hardware uses a special washer to align the strut inside the tophat. This is a metal on metal situation, once the bushings start to go they allow these parts to temporarily separate on fast shock extensions and clash back together. The KYB kits have a bushing that is shaped the same as the old bushing and washer combination. Thus, eliminating this noise all together... Thank you KYB for designing around this. You solved a problem I wasn't really sure I had. I have not heard that annoying sound from the first time I backed out of my driveway since I installed this kit. Highly recommend.

I agree with the review that Adam G wrote. I do believe these are a better design than the original. I was having the exact same problem as him. The slapping noise of metal on metal coming from my left strut on my tacoma was loud and pretty annoying. I only heard it when the suspension loaded and unloaded rapidly. These fixed my problem paired with a set of bilstein 5100s. My steering feels tighter and the truck feels more responsive on curvy highways and on rough dirt roads.

Installed these KYB SM5640 top hats with Bilstein 5100 shocks and Old Man Emu 2888 front coil springs on my 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Fit perfect and are excellent quality. Good idea to change them with your shocks to save labor in the future due to squeaking and or knocking from the top hats being worn out.

Best price by far compared to other websites and local stores (for same part number). Perfect OEM replacement for my 2006 Tacoma 4x4 4.0 SR5 with aftermarket OME 2885 coils and Bilstein 5100's. Includes all the bushings, including the molded-in rubber bushing found underneath the tophat and protrudes into the center hole, providing cushioning and tight fit around the shock stem.

Fit and work well.
