I bought this to replace an old fiber optic switch that, sadly, is no longer available. Installing this switch button required drilling a larger hole in my quartz counter-top (hired a pro for this) as well as buying an extended 3" air switch. I wanted to avoid enlarging the hole in the plywood on the underside of the counter (typical method used for installing standard switch length) because of the fuss, mess, and, most importantly, wanted to preserve the strength around my under-mount sink as much as I could. Granted, this may be overkill.The electrical switch box plugs into the under-sink electrical outlet with enough room in the remaining receptacle outlet for my dishwasher plug. I was concerned about this. The switch box also has only one receptacle just for the garbage disposal which is all I need for a clean, simple switching operation.The switch works fine with no sticking, etc. and the stainless finish matches the other sink fixtures. The only sad thing is that I miss the 20 sec. timer that my old fiber optic switch had, but this is not the fault of the product.

awesome product great price... the brushed copper finish matched my home fixtures in the kitchen... it fit perfectly in the soap dispenser slot/hole... we did not use the soap dispenser anyways... the previous two broke quickly... so when we fixed last time we just stopped using the soap dispenser...We down graded from a half to a 1/3 hp... quieter... no notice in reduced functionality so far... my only disappointment is that I did not do this earlier. also saved a little bit over the Home-depot version which did not have the finish I wanted...Home depot however is where I saw the product and got to thinking... I waited till the garbage disposal died... it has been on its last leg since we bought the home (4 years ago)... did the work myself... disposal and switch was less than $100. the disposal was the same brand just less HP so it fight right in no new plumbing... found the disposal on Let It Go.com on my phone app...had an old light cord that I put on the disposal to plug into the switch instead of the hard wiring it used to have...

I was wondering how to put in a disposal switch, as I didn't really want to have to cut into the sweet tile work in the backsplash. This was perfect! the color matched the other nickel items we had on the sink. Super easy to install!Because it's an air switch, you don't have to worry about the line being next to electrical or water or pipes, etc. The one thing they don't tell you, which surprised me (I'm a rookie with these, what can I say?) was that it's not a momentary switch. I thought you'd push down, the disposal comes on and when you let go, it shuts off. But it's an actual switch. One push on, one push off.That was the only "oh ha" moment of the entire thing. Super easy to install, a TON of extra air line to make sure you can get from the switch to power, and it looks like quality.

Installed an Insinkerator air switch during a kitchen remodel 3 years ago. A couple of weeks ago the button became jammed in the down position in its holder and simply would not release. Had to buy a complete setup because although you can buy a replacement button by itself, you can't just buy the button and holder together - and the button alone is $17! A new, complete Insinkerator unit is over $60. This one is under $40. Doubtful it can last any less than the 3 years the Insinkerator switch did. Upon receopt the quality seems just fine. Quick job of replacement. All works now as it should. Only gave it four stars because I just can't bring myself to say I "love" a garbage disposal air switch.

The first thing to note is that the switch comes in 15 different finishes. Make sure to choose the one you want before you order. I mistakenly thought (based on the picture) that it came with five different caps and you could choose after the switch arrived. So I had to send back and order the right one. It arrived today. The stainless steel version has a metal cover (maybe even actual stainless steel), not plastic. Also the plunge distance needed to operate the switch is about half an inch, not an inch (at least on this unit).The switch comes with ten feet of plastic tubing, so you can mount the button quite a way off from the switch unit.Overall very nice. Time and experience will tell, but from my testing so far, I would recommend this item.

UPDATED from 1 star to 4 stars: My initial review was poor because the unit I received felt cheap, arrived scratched up, and the button was a little off center. Northstar promptly contacted me and offered a refund and replacement. I let them know I only wanted the replacement and was just looking to be happy with my purchase; not looking for a handout. They sent a replacement button which was in better shape, aligned properly, and functioned well. While I still think $45 is a bit much for the parts contained in the kit, it works well and serves its purpose so I'm happy with it now.

Very pleased to find an air switch for 40-50% less than the ones they sell at the big box stores. I've never used one before this so I have nothing to compare it to, but as far as I can tell, it works as it should.I was nervous that the polished nickel wouldn't match my polished nickel fixtures, but it looks great with my polished nickel Kohler faucet and accessories. It's hard to even find a polished nickel air switch that doesn't cost an arm and a leg or require you to buy the button separately!One caveat, though: I can't tell if it's made of brass or some cheaper metal or even plastic. I guess I'll update my review if it doesn't hold up over time or if the nickel finish starts wearing off.
