Great toy for two year old.
Great value. Grandsons favorite. Works great. Pretty strong too.

Can go uphill (read below)
The train can climb the basic wooden bridges with some extra load (tested with 5 wagons). The wheels are some kind of soft silicone/rubber and have good traction. The speed is average and it does not derail. The sound can not be turned off, but you can use a tape to lower the volume. Going uphill backwards is not possible due to the shape. It has some issues with the plastic bridge you see on the image. Those issues can be solved with some workarounds: - The ascending is too steep and the train does not have enough weight on the front, so it flips on the back. You can unscrew the bottom and add some extra weight where the speaker is located. It is enough to keep the balance on ascending path. - The plastic bridge did not have enough traction. This is not the train the issue, but if you experience it, apply some silicone glue on the tracks.

Absolute piece of junk.
This train is a complete disappointment. Itโs very slow, the battery compartment cover doesnโt stay on, and the wheels broke off the first time my son played with it. I tried super-gluing one wheel back on, and then the other side fell off shortly after. Beyond poor quality, this is a safety concern. The wheels come off easily and create small loose pieces that could be a choking hazard for young children. A toy meant for kids should not fall apart immediately. I would have returned this immediately if I still had the box. Instead, Iโm left with a cheaply made, unsafe toy thatโs basically a useless hunk of junk. I would not recommend this or purchase it again.

Grandsons Love Them
I bought 2 sets for my 4 and 2 year old grandsons to play with at my house. I have had them for a week and they work great and the boys love them. The magnets are strong and can pull several other train cars. They move well on the wooden train tracks and have even become "runaway trains" and gone on the carpet and hard floors. The boys keep wanting to take them home so I ordered 2 more sets so we can still have some at my house when they come to play.

Wheels broke off
This was fun but the wheels fell off pretty quick. Iโm glad it only takes one battery. My toddler played with this and the car that came with it, no other cars or tracks. It ran fine over wood floor but not carpet as expected. Speed is fast enough to be entertaining but slow enough to follow along. He seems to prefer to push it himself so I ended up getting a set of wooden magnetic ones but maybe if we had a track system this would have been better.

Great value with some drawbacks.
Needs two AA batteries for the controller and two AA for the engine. The engine very works well up and down hills pulling even better than the Brio Mighty Red which was our previous best engine. It fails at backing up hills but then they all do. But it is a bit too high to fit in the standard wooden tunnel from Brio and also does not make it under some tracks on elevated overpasses unless you shim them up a bit higher than normal. It has very loud and obnoxious steam engine sound effects which don't make any sense with the "commuter train" model we got. I put tape over the speaker holes and that helped some. The remote control uses an infrared signal so the control must be pointed roughly in the direction of the train and not have any objects in the way. A word about that in the instructions (which are poorly translated) would have been helpful (they speak of "pairing" as if its Bluetooth but there is no pairing). There are A/B channel switches on the control and on the train that must match (both A or both B) so you could use two of these and control them independently. The control has a forward and back lever which works a bit awkwardly. You must press it forward and hold it there for about two seconds to get the train to move ahead. It spring returns to the neutral position while the train continues. Then if you pop it to reverse briefly, it stops with a loud hiss sound. Or if you hold it back it reverses. There is also a button to sound a loud horn, and a button to toggel the front lights on or off but only when moving forward. When going backward the front lights are always off and a rear red light blinks. Lots of fun for our 3 1/2 year old grandson. A very good value for the $15 price.
