It's hard plastic and sturdy enough for some heavy duty sword fights. It is attractive also. I had to tell my 5 year old granddaughter to tone down her attacks. She loves it

I would not recommend that because the material is plastic. The heat would most likely case the sword to melt and you would have quite a mess on your hands!
