Although, I live in the dessert, and don't ever plan on getting colder than 20°. **Q: Can I use this for general rust protection, i.e. to replace Boeshield (a rust inhibitor) for my tools?** A: I believe you can as it has worked for me so far. However, I don't know if I would use it for tools as it's primary purpose is as a lubricant. This is where it shines. It seems a bit expensive to use soley as a rust inhibitor. **Q: I've heard them claim this is the official product used by the United States Marines, any Marines on here that can confirm? And give a honest opinion on it's performance in the field?** A: Last I checked, the Marine Corps was still using the original Break-Free CLP formula. I use the slip 2000 gun lube for all my pistols. I've tried different greases.
