By that I mean the jacket is had very good rainproofing, but is not completely waterproof. This lends unexpected benefits in terms of being extremely soft and comfortable for my toddler to wear. The lining is made a light jersey flannel fabric, and offers a bit of warmth if there's a chill in the air. The jacket is so lightweight that I can easily tuck it away in any purse or bag just in case we need it, and because the jacket also offers good windproofing we also don't need to carry an extra jacket with us. My toddler wears this on the playground, at school, and while riding his balance bike and stays dry. A word about that...as I mentioned, the jacket is not completely waterproof, so if it's pouring cats and dogs and you need to be outside for an extended amount of time, I'm certain the jacket would eventually soak through. For our needs it's fine. Our son will soon turn 3, and we've been wearing the size 3T since he was 2.5. The sleeves are a bit long, but it's not an issue at all and we just roll the sleeves once - this jacket would also work very well on taller children.
