Not loud, does get warm after extended use. I turned an old exercise bike into a generator. The spindle rests on the bike flyweel and turns the motor. You barely have to pedal to generate power. I tested with a volt meter and you are getting the full 12 volts. I LOVE that there is a mounting bracket. Comes with allen wrench and 2 extra motor brushes. My only complaint is the set screws came out while I was configuring the motor. They are so small they literally disappeared. I ended up drilling a small hole through the spindle and sticking a piece of wire through.
