This Speaker is a Life-Changing Product
The title sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not. I can't believe my family went so many years without owning one of these, and I plan to buy more of these in the future. We own multiple TCL Roku Smart TV's. My dad is hard-of-hearing. Before we got this speaker, he would raise the volume to 75 or 100 so that he could attempt to hear a TV show or movie. But then, when the commercials come on Hulu or YouTube, they were so loud it blasts your eardrums out. My parents have gotten into so many arguments over this. (My dad refuses to wear a hearing aid.) Even at 100 volume, he STILL could not hear half the time. Two months ago, I saw the Vox YouTube video called "Why We All Need Subtitles Now". (I highly recommend watching it, especially if you need to convince someone why you need this speaker.) Suddenly it all made sense. Movies and TV shows are mixed for sound made for surround-sound speakers, not the crappy speakers we get in our flatscreen TV's. So of course the sound quality is messed up. At first, I tried saving money by buying a $40 sound bar here on Amazon. But it wasn't compatible with the Roku TV's, and the sound quality was questionable if it was even doing anything at all. So I decided to return the cheaper one and just go for it and spend the $85 on this refurbished speaker. Oh...My...Goodness. I am so glad I did. Because from the moment we installed it, there was an immediate difference right away. My brother was laughing, saying, "It's almost TOO good. It's like I'm in a movie theater." My dad watched a TV show on Hulu, and he confirmed that the speaker lowers the sound of commercials as-advertised. He said, "This was 10,000 times better." I was busy with work all day, so I only got to watch one episode of The Mandalorian tonight. Yes, the sound quality is amazing. But something else I noticed was that the sound of the explosions were a lot softer- or rather- more balanced. Before, if we were watching a movie with an explosion, my dad would quickly have to grab the remote to mute it, or turn the volume up and down constantly throughout the course of a movie. Now, it feels like we're finally hearing the sound the way it was meant to be heard. We kept the volume at 25 the entire time, and my dad could actually hear it. Unbelievable. It was almost too good to be true. I had to confirm, "Can you really hear it now?" He said yes- and that before, he could really only hear 50% of the words people were saying, even at 100 volume. Now, he can hear 90%. I feel like that other 10% is understandable. If you watch that Vox video, you'll understand that sometimes, actors just mumble, and there's not a lot you can do about it. We re-watched an especially mumbly scene of Mal from Shadow and Bone Season 2 as our test. And I could actually hear it perfectly fine this time around, where as we needed subtitles to understand him before. My dad said, "I'll never feel bored watching a movie again." (Poor guy. He really needs to get his hearing aids working. I can't imagine living like that.) So if you or a loved one is hard of hearing too, I think this will also change your life. Also, even though this is "refurbished", it seems basically brand new to me. I love it. No complaints whatsoever. I am 100% planning to buy additional Roku speakers so that we can kit out the living room into a proper home theater. To me, this is worth the money. And it's a lot cheaper than a lot of other sound systems out there. I can't recommend this highly enough.

Refurbished?
So glad I went with the refurbished unit. Everything looked literally brand new out of the box. All the parts were still sealed and packaged. Nothing was missing, even the batteries were there. The soundbar itself did not have one scratch or blemish, it looks like someone just returned a brand new one without touching it! Thanks for saving me a few bucks. Anyways, the reason I bought this thing is because I have a Sony Bravia (2019) with Android TV. The Android OS is absolutely awful. It is so slow and difficult to navigate. Most apps take forever to load and then wouldn’t play video. You have to hard reset the tv daily and force stop apps just to get anything to work. It is so bad my wife wouldn’t even want to watch anything on this tv I spent so much money on. The Sony is only a few years old and I paid over a grand for it, ridiculous and not a mistake I will make again. With that said the picture on said Sony is still beautiful and clear so I don't want to give up on it yet. So like a husband might do, I started researching solutions: This Roku sound bar serves 2 purposes in my case, replace the Android OS and give me better sound than the built in tv speakers. For anyone that already uses Roku we all know it’s simple and easy to use, it just works. I could go on about everything great about the Roku Os. My tv has hdmi arc but it wouldn’t recognize. Luckily this unit comes with an optical cable and I’m able to turn on/off the tv and control the volume ALL WITH THE ROKU REMOTE. Goodbye crappy huge confusing Sony remote. After messing with my tv picture settings, all the apps and streaming look 10x better playing from the Roku vs. the android TV version. This was a huge plus I wasn’t expecting. During setup it kept saying my picture was 720p, I had to mess with the tv settings and enable full hdr and that’s what got the soundbar to recognize a 4k HDR signal. The sound from the soundbar itself is decent. Don’t expect to get blown away but it is an improvement over built in speakers. I’d love to buy the subwoofer or larger soundbar Roku offers but it’s just not in the budget right now. 10/10 I would buy this again. If you need a 4k HDR enabled Roku player and a decent soundbar option all-in-one that can replace your old tv and remote, this is it!

Love the Roku Soundbar!
We had an older Roku box in our upstairs master bedroom. It slowly began to act funky to the point I had to unplug & re-plug the Roku power cord daily. It would take forever to search for channels, and I had had enough. I had a newer Roku Soundbar in my shop that I just love. The problem was that Amazon only had new versions of the Roku sound bar available in Spanish version. They did show an English version available as a refurbished unit. I decided to take a chance, and I ordered it. I needn't worry as it came packaged as if it was an unused version. The unit installed easily. The first this you do is run the update, which I did. I then selected the apps I wanted to have on the Roku. I was not sure how the sound bar would work with our TV as is 15 years or so old. It synced perfectly. I have not had to reboot the Roku box once since installation. It seems to stream quicker than our older unit, and the quality appears to be much better. The picture quality is so much better than the older Roku it replaced, the app selection was quick & easy. I love the sound quality of the speakers over the TV speaker. I had no idea what I was missing. Price was great and I am really happy with this purchase.

early in the game but so far so good...
Rec'd yesterday & hooked it up. I'm a Roku Pro & I cut the cord 10yrs+ ago w/ 2nd gen Roku. I bought a Roku3 10yrs ago when 1st avail. & it's still in use 2day. After reading reviews I decided on the refurbi$hed unit. Set up was a breeze. I'm usually not into 2 in 1 devices but due to the limited number of HDMI ports on the bedroom TV I jumped. The Roku3 has a headphone jack on the remote (eats up your battery, but great if you have someone sleeping beside you) and I bought them as recently as a 2yrs ago via ebay. Most Roku remotes are interchangeable with a reset, I may swap 1 out 2 see if it works w/ streambar. I'll loose power button, but 1touch usually turns TV on. 2nd feature most Roku don't have that's on Roku3: usb input. You can use media share with the Roku Media Player, but I like having a usb input for my thumb drive, big plus. The sound quality is good to very good for the price - not as loud as my V brand name sound bars but loud enough my bedroom; way better than the TV's output. I have some computer speakers on a TV, the Roku is not as loud but the sound quality is much better. This is a big win in this area, it's loud enough, only 1 HDMI port for what is usually 2, not going to rock the house with XM/Pandora, but fills the room with high quality sound for this price and so far the refurbished unit (which came in a plain brown box) has been satisfactory. Again, this is a review after initial use and not long-term. Hey Roku!: bring back the earphone jack on the remote!

4 years later and it’s still great!
4 years later and I was compelled enough to write a review. Product still works great. Never had an issue. Sound is great, especially next to standard tv speakers. I couldn’t be happier with a product.

Great sound quality once set up
First off: if you need to use the provided optical digital audio cable, be sure to remove the tiny protective covers from each end. I hate to admit that I didn't recognize that the ends were covered. I couldn't understand why the cable didn't attach to the Roku or the TV securely and the cable didn't work. Thanks to the video blogger who wasn't afraid to admit the same! I have an older generation HD TV, so couldn't take advantage of the advanced features of the HDMI-ARC, however the sound was still an upgrade from my TV speakers. Because of the two issues above, set up was a bit more challenging for me, but nothing I couldn't figure out by reading the instructions or visiting Roku support. I used to need to use the Roku 3 remote and the TV remote together, but now just the Streambar remote controls both. I accidentally mute or change the volume when holding the remote, but that's a minor nuisance because the sound controls are on the right side of the remote. Sometimes the power button on the remote fails to turn on both the TV and the Streambar, but this is also a minor issue, resolved by pressing the button again. The user interface is familiar to any Roku device user, but still takes some practice to navigate and understand all the options for settings and screen layouts. Other than these small concerns, I'm very satisfied with the purchase and would recommend it for anyone who wants better quality sound and doesn't want to spend a lot on TV audio systems.

Works Great with Computer Monitor (with one very small exception)
I've used a Roku stick on the computer monitor in my RV, but the stick doesn't control sound, so I bought this Streambar, even though Roku instructions insist that the monitor (they say TV) must have either HDMI ARC or fiber optic ports. Wrong! With just a regular HDMI cable from the Streambar to the monitor everything works as expected--the one exception is that the Roku remote won't turn on/off the monitor. Big deal. Touch a button for on/off; all other Roku functions including sound and muting work from the remote. Yea! Sound quality is nice, not spectacular. Base is surprisingly good. Overall I'm a happy camper (RV'er) Note: when following the onscreen instructions simply install the HDMI cable and skip the rest.

Worked well until it didn't...
It worked pretty well while it lasted and the sound quality was impressive for such a small soundbar. About 6 months after purchase it started freezing at random or the sound would glitch. Restarting would sometimes just end in a solid purple screen that wouldn't change until you unplugged it and plugged it back in. For the past month it would randomly lose wireless connection. Now it just doesn't find a wireless signal at all despite all our other devices connecting just fine. Even after a factory reset it doesn't detect a wireless signal so it's now a paperweight. I don't like that this model doesn't have a standard ethernet port. That would resolve this problem.
