Talon LGP1S 50-Amp Enclosed, Outdoor Rated, Receptacle

I used this to install a charger for my electric car outdoors but under the cover of a car port. Easy to install, fit the 6 gauge wire I ran from the box, charger plug is nice and snug in the receptacle. Box feels sturdy and I doubt it will cause me any problems, not that it matters as these things are really cheap. The holes in the back of the box to mount the box are large enough that the heads of my screws would go through, but nothing a small washer couldn't fix. Not much else to say, this stuff is all really standard.

Perfect Tesla charging setup - replaced an old 20 amp 220v breaker with a 220v 50 amp GFI breaker (no electrocutions on my watch - this was by far the most expensive part), ran an 8 guage wire leftover from an electric oven out the garage wall and through the siding. Cut a hole to fit in siding, run wire through, few connections, button everything up, clear caulk around the outside to make sure we keep it watertight. NEMA adapter from Tesla is $45. Total cost less than $200!

These NEMA four blade outlets (14-50) will run enough current to electrocute a person. So make sure you use the proper gauge wire (at least 6g) and make certain the connections are absolutely tight. Check them twice. And again in six months. I use mine to charge my Tesla and that's all. The original "intent" of this outlet was for use with, I believe, a stove, where one does not keep unplugging devices. If you do plan to plug and unplug devices on a regular basis, you might consider a cut out switch.

Does not look weather tight, and does not allow the lid to close but I have the RV plug with the finger grips on it and its large. Works fine, installed easy. I got what I expected for a reasonable price.

added this 50 amp RV box to the side of my garage, so when I work on the RV I can have it fully powered up.The outlet included in this box is a NEMA 14-50R configuration. I also purchased the bougerv 50 amp rv power cord wire 6/3 + 8/1. They work perfect(photo). I really love it. Was the perfect purchase for the cord plug-in on Backup Generator System that I install at the house. Have not had to use it yet but it's still there on the ready when the lights go out.

After searching around local big-box stores and electrical wholesalers, this was the most cost-effective solution to setting up a charging station at home without buying the Proprietary charger (for $675) for my Tesla M3. Buying a standard stove outlet and a NEMA 14-50 adapter was the solution but there are varying levels of quality out there from $6 to $115. The Talon outdoor receptacle gave me both a high-quality receptacle and weatherproof box for $65. It has knockouts on both sides and the bottom for any mounting scenario. Mine is mounted in my car port so it will get wet during heavy rains. Some have complained about quality control issues with these units. Mine arrived with one minor scratch on it, but was otherwise fine for what I needed.

Got this for my cottage so I could plug in the car. The box is really sturdy and mounted easily. I was able to wire it with #6, there's enough room to get the wire in and bent enough to get into the terminals. My only complaint is that the unopened knock-outs were not punched all the way through, I was able to get the one I needed open with a little prying, but some were completely sealed and would have to be drilled out.

Very good product, The only thing I regret, didn’t realize that the space it has to connect the plug is almost 3 inches only but to be able to connect the plug with handle you need 4 inches of space, other than that very good product and worth the price

I bought the receptacle to use with a Level 2 electric car charger. I installed it on the side of my garage and it seems to be very strong and durable. It has a couple of holes so the cover can be locked in the closed position to prevent theft. The charger has 4 mounting holes, so it is very sturdy when installed. I added caulking to the top and sides to keep water out. The receptacle comes with a wire connected from the case to the receptacle ground and a terminal block for connecting the ground wire from the cable, but I connected the cable ground directly to the receptacle along with the case ground wire. I was slightly disappointed because the cover had a scratch on it, so the receptacle I received was probably a return.

12/18/2024: I wanted to provide an update: Working fine a couple years later. We have had absolutely no issue using it as an outlet for an EVSE. Saying that...I plan to change this to hardwired install for my new EVSE (ChargePoint+ Hardwired). If you plan on buying an outlet for an EVSE... please get an outlet with GFCI protection. Purchased for the installation of my EVSE at home. Works as intended, the electricians had no issue with it.
