Review: Got these for emergency bag - Update: tried one out just to be sure, and can confirm it will keep you warm! Took some pictures of my hubby with it wrapped around and then just holding it to give an idea of how big the mylar blankets are, he is 6'2 for reference. These are a great item to have, very versatile and useful! They are lightweight small and very portable. I got these to put in our camping/hiking/emergency bags. They would be great for any of those situations, but I also plan to buy more to put some in each of our cars- they would be perfect to have in case your car breaks down or you get stranded in cold weather. Also useful to have around the house in cold environments, you can layer one between regular blankets to really increase the warmth and heat retention! I've also heard of people duct taping them together to create a mylar tent or putting a hole in the center to turn it into a poncho. Definitely worth it to keep several on hand!

**Q: If I wanted to use this as a temporary blanket in my home would it keep me warm?**
A: Hi - I have used these for years in various applications - so here's my answer - of course you could use it for a temporary blanket indoors - but, as the other guy said - it is a little noisy - but the real issue is that it is WATERPROOF - meaning that as you sit (even outdoors) your clothes will accumulate sweat/moisture and you'll get a little damp - normal body moisture can not move through this blanket as through a textile (cotton/polyester/etc) one - these work by reflecting (and retaining) body heat.

**Q: Does each color variation serve any other purpose aside from insulation? or they simply for preference?**
A: Great question rolling.stone! The silver side of the blanket helps to reuse body heat. The gold side actually deflects heat, and can help to prevent overheating or provide shade. The other colors such as army green, can be used provide coverage or shelter, without being super reflective and looking like a signal shelter. Other colors like red, pink and orange all have reflective attributes that can be used to make emergency signals and stand out, but also use the silver side to hold in heat. Some blankets (not Swiss Safe Brand) have a matte finish, which does not offer reflective signaling at all.

**Q: If I were to put it over a window, would it block out the light?**
A: Mike, It would not block out the light 100%. All emergency blankets have some mild transparency.

Liked the individual packaging. I purchased these to keep in our church's disaster preparedness stock. We get hot summers with wildfires, and wet winters with frost and heavy snow. These are ideal to hand out for temporary use if people evacuate (or, like last winter's snowpocalypse when power was out for 2 weeks). And cheaper than fleece blankets, of which we also had several. Had, because some morons decided to steal our community supplies - so I can't comment on durability of these plastic lifesaver blankets....
