While you can fit coins that are slightly larger into the opening, it is not recommended to stretch the slot beyond 34mm so that your sobriety or challenge coins remain very secure. Coin has to fit through a slot in the outer casing, but there is no closure. Coin is not secure to sit centered in the plastic display window and there is a possibility that the coin could fall out and be lost. I can't recommend this item and would not buy it again.
