Great box

We were looking for a rigid sided unit to replace one of those soft-sided cartop carriers. This one had a great price. We installed this on top of our Subaru Outback on the built-in rails. It went on fairly easily and had plenty of options for where to put the U-bolts. My only complaints are that you really can only put small bags up there because larger ones don't fit well. The other issue is when it was time to take it off after we got home, it seemed like the U-bolts wouldn't let loose and needed some gentle persuasion to unbent and release. I'm still glad we got it. We'll get the appropriate size duffles to put up there and we'll be set for our next trip. Recommended for folks who are a little more agile and can install and load it easily.

I've used this on several road trips of a few hundred miles each. I really like that it opens from either side. The whole thing is pretty flexible and light enough that I can easily put it on the roof of a full-size SUV by myself. It installs in about 15-20 minutes and comes off faster than that. The interior hardware takes up more space than I would like--that's my only gripe. You lose a fair amount of space on the floor for large objects due to the hardware sticking up from the floor. If you're packing a number of smaller items it probably isn't an issue. Definitely use the stickers provided or some more robust method to cover the unused holes in the bottom to keep water out. It will still get wet inside in the rain, so also be sure to put anything inside the box in plastic bags or other suitable protection. Don't count on the box to keep things dry on its own.

I have a Hyundai Kona that doesn't have a lot of roof space and this box is perfect! I like that I can open it from either side (but not at the same time) and both sides have triple cam locks. The Key can not be removed unless the Lock is engaged. The top is tricky to open because of the strength of the interior lifts, but if you start at either front or back, instead of the middle, it will be easier. I found that after a few tries, it opened with less exertion on my part. Speaking of the lifts, they are very study and appear to be replicas of the thules. The ubolts fit well, but the holes in the metal support on the box bottom weren't exactly lined up with the holes drilled in the plastic...easily smoothed out with a drill bit. The bolts them selves are a bit too long for the screw on handles. But being a bit afraid of cutting down 8 bolts and possibly messing up, I took the easy way out....8 washers, 8 1)2 in nuts and 8 lock washers to fit over the nuts...result... Perfect fit! Keep in mind that the nuts are used as spacers so they aren't supposed to screw on, only slide on. This does raise the height of the handle about 1/2 in but that is not a problem. It also solves the plastic on plastic issue which is really the only real design flaw I noted. There were a few little "scritches" along the edges but for the price I paid, I am very happy. I drove around town with no noticeable drop in mpg and today I am doing a 250 mi highway trip which will tell me more. To be on the safe side, I have a strap that goes front to back, but I doubt it will be necessary. The top fits over the base by nearly 2 in and with 3 lock points on either side, it is very secure. I will update this review after my trial run if anything changes my initial response! I completed my road trip with my topper... If I could rater this a 6, I would! I travelled at 70mph and got nearly 38 mpg! My car is advertised to get 35mpg. There was NO wind n9ise or vibration and the carrier showed no movement on the rails. The inside handles had loosened just a tiny bit but that may have been due to my not holding the bolts when I tightened the handles. I fingered held them so the didn't move and was able to gently tightened the handles a bit more. I am VERY pleased with the carrier, especially at it's price point. If you are able and willing to tinker a bit, you can save $$$$. 🤩

I liked that it fit my car and the design is such that it will fit just about any mounts. It wasn't hard to put together and the design is such that I little fear it will fly off the car. It doesn't make much noise and the gas milage only slightly lowered from 47 to 44 on my hybrid.

I’ve had this on my car for less than a year and already it’s broken out all over the bottom there was no protection planned for it. It’s properly mounted everything else in the whole entire bottom end of the product is just falling apart, where the mounting brackets are.

Excellent unit. Mounts are very strong. After install in the garage on my SUV, confirmed I could still make it out of the garage by about an inch and half (7 foot door opening). Picture is after loading all our beach stuff (chairs, unbrellas, etc) and will give it a trip on the expressway before leving on our trip just to test. If an issue I will update but I dought I will, it is attached very well. Unlock one side and open. Relock that side and unlock the other side and open. Access on both sides.

This roof box had the right dimensions and the right features for me. The single latch and ability to open from either side makes it convenient. However, the star knobs meant for fastening it to my crossbars weren't suitable for my installation. The threads were set too deep inside the fasteners to reach the U-bolt threads, so I needed to find replacements that would work, which took some effort and added expense. The biggest downside to this box is the finish. In less than one year on my vehicle's roof, the clear coat has blistered and peeled over a wide area, making it an unsightly mess. (See the photo). Based on that alone, I couldn't recommend buying it.
